2) is the closest, but I also think we might consider this a 'white lie'. While the idea of this might have been around since 2011, I don't really believe that they started real work on this until very recently, probably after E3. WWHD took them 6 months to do. Considering that they can build this off the OoT engine, if anything this could take less time.
