Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie, implies that there isn't a big difference between Xbox and PS4

Reggie is doing his job right, any gamer who hasn't bought a Wii U is doing there job wrong.

Okay not 'any' gamer, but almost all who can afford one.

I wonder who's alt this is

One who seems to think games cost 1.5million to develop...... can we just ignore him, it's making the rest of us look bad and you're never going to change his mind.

Although I will say exclusivity can sometimes be a boon for a titles sales, as sometimes a title being exclusive can make it more interesting to that console owner. Multiplat doesnt necesarily = more sales/profit every time.

Come on. take a look at Kotaku where is an article showing of the development costs of titles for the last 20 years.

AAA title - from 10 mio US$ up.

But there are indies which have only budgets of 1.5 mio or less.

Now think of a BIG third party using already build assets (character models, animations, setting, parts of story etc.) and building a more arcade like game which reassembled just a portion of the AAA title BUT in a UNIQUE and fun way.

We will see the big studios going to be "unfair" against those indies just doing that. They are already doing it to some degree by developing mobile versions. But the combination of being able to reuse much larger parts and customers willing to pay much more - I can't imagine any studio not going after this.

It is just a question of the risks. As the Wii U base is steadily growing it is not only a question of time when such titles get released. I wouldn't be surprised if studios already working on those titles to be ready mid next year...

I bought a Wii U. Guess I did my job right then

I then realised it has few games worth playing so sold it... but, I did buy it in the first place so :)

congrats. you won't regret it. As - I guess - you won't expect AAA from thirds you won't be disappointed. But chances are more than good that thirds will release little gems based on their big IPs on and unique to the Wii U.

I think for Nintendo it's a good thing right now to be that second system. Last gen around 50% of console gamers had more than one system. Until Sony and Microsoft are done with a business model of losing piles of money on the front end of a generation in order to hopefully break even or make some profit later on I don't think it's wise for a smaller company like Nintendo to compete directly. For Nintendo that could be like commiting "Hari Sega" a form of "Segguku".

Except Sony and Microsoft didn't lose piles of money at the start of this gen. In fact, they made money...

The Wii U is the only console that lost money at the start of this gen, ironic isn't it?

I'm sorry but where in that article does it suggest that Microsoft profited on Xbox One?  They were losing money on xbox one even before the price drop.

Well I'm going to imply there's no big difference e between a Wii u and a toaster. I can make stuff up too!

Guess I'm doing my job wrong...just not enough on it yet to warrant a purchase so I will happily stick with my PS3 and PS4

And there isn't much difference from the Wii U than the PS3 and 360 except the exclusives and they have six more years of third party games.

LOL..  "Except for the exclusives"...  The whole point of it is the exclusives. It's a differentiated product because nearly the entire games lineup is unique to that system.

I guess I'm doing my job "wrong" then cause I don't see enough reasons to purchase a Wii u yet. I am gonna stick with my PS3 and PS4 and will still have fun:)

The source I gave quite clearly says Xbox One helped Microsoft to bumper profits.

One of your sources is pure conjecture, while the other one... doesn't really know what a loss is.

It's not based on anything though. It says it helped to bumper profits but it gives no evidence or rational for how it managed to do that. The article i posted breaks down actual financia figures to explain how the xbox one has actually been a loss leader. Even before the price drop which will cost Microsoft hundreds of millions of dollars.

It's the same reason the PS4 and Xbox One are different from one another.  The point is that Reggie is bashing the PS4 and Xbox One for having multiconsoles that are similar to one another why the Wii U has different games.  The only reason the Wii U has different games though is because it's marginally more powerful than the last gen consoles so just about every title on the system is a last gen port, minus the few hundred  third party titles and exclusives.

Reggie's just upset and has to get his licks in now, because holiday next year, both the Xbox One and PS4 are going to have more games than the Wii U.
