Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie, implies that there isn't a big difference between Xbox and PS4

All that "Look at me, I'm unique" mentality has not gotten the Wii U very far, but in theory, he is a bit right.

Aside from exclusives, XBO and PS4 are still twinsies.

Take the pad out the equation and if the Wii U would've come out sooner it would've been the HD Triplets.

There isn't, but that's by design, Sony and MS target the same mainstream core gamer demographic (mostly in the West) and market to the exact same demographic.

That means they basically match each other feature for feature and their platforms are driven first and foremost by 3rd party big guns like COD, Destiny, Battlefield, Madden, NBA 2K, Batman, etc.

I was just told no third party titles, so no Guilty Gear.

Well then, no ZombiU, no Lego City Undercover, No Wonderful 101, pretty much the same thing like i said.

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

He's right. I don't see the point in owning both of them.

Except Wii U's exclusive lineup, target demographic, controller, and design philosophy are far removed from the HD twins.

Nintendo's problem I think is that they in effect have a philosophy of appealling to kids/family demographic first and then trying to win over the older gamer after that.

Sony's philosophy is to aim at the 19-year-old, because they believe younger kids want to be that age, and older people also want to go back to that age (care free). MS just basically copies Sony. Though Sega really started pushing in that direction first.

But it's just to get adults to buy into a platform that primarily centers around Disney-esque mascots ... no matter how good the games are. Yes, I know Nintendo love to use the "but adults go watch Pixar movies" ... sure like maybe once every 2 years. How many adults primarily go to watch animated films over live action?

As I said, Take the pad out of the equation and you have a last gen HD Triplet. The exclusive line up is exclusive just like any other console, but when you're swimming in a sea of third party it makes exclusives stand out to the true gamers but to the casuals it makes it harder to discern. Nintendo missed the boat because they delivered a last gen level console late.

Sony and MS's exclusives are similar compared to Nintendo's very different appproach to game design.
And the Pad can't just be discounted.

Oh well.

I'm still enjoying the Wii U system quite a bit.

HD + Nintendo is a match made in heaven, a nice upgrade from the horrible image quality of the Wii years.

Sony has their own style of making games. MS has no brand style. They just have a lot of games from a lot of different developers.
