Jokes aside (which everyone is thinking) when they launch a new console they will tell us Wii U had passed it's potential, whether that is 2016 or 2020.

Seeing as how very often software > hardware, I just want Nintendo to focus on making great games with great gameplay. Let Sony and Microsoft duke it out on specs.

I think MS could bail out on physical consoles as soon as next-gen.

I recall a similar line spoken about there being no ps4. Years ago.

We haven't quite reached that point yet though. Playstation Now is the neccessary baby steps to it eventually becoming a reality.

There are other things too, like 5 years it's quite plausible that the standard tablet will be able to generate graphics relatively close to a PS4, and be able to stream that image to any television in the house without much fuss. So as time goes on, the need for a "dedicated, shoe box sized console under the TV" is coming closer and closer to an end IMO.

I hope in "Wii D" in 2019 but... too much.

2017/2018 is more realistic.

My money is on 2018.

Im sure Nintendo is already putting their ducks in a row to develop the next Nintendo console in 2015 with a schedule for 2018 as well. Lets just hope they work with third party because their competitors next consoles will destroy them again.

They're waiting for the PS4 to peak (likely 2 or 3 years from now)... There is little to no point in launching now.

Also, they want to come up with the next gimmick I guess, maybe a cartridge based console? Brain wave based controls?

The important thing is that they should release a machine with more FLOPS so it does not flop... something significantly more powerful than the PS4... at a decent price (I would pay 500 - 600$ for a really powerful console, but many people won't).

Cartridges aren't the way to go.. Sony tried that with the Vita and it flopped lol

Unless they pull out something with amazing sales potential the system will peak next year but this will be its biggest holiday.

New Handheld fall 2016
New Nintendo Console 2017

How would it peak next year yet have lower holiday sales then?

I'm not sure the screen will ever get its do this gen.

With Smash, MK8 (plus DLC)  momentum carrying it, a more healthy software scedule and probably a price cut I expect it be up YOY every month apart from june (MK8 launch)- and December (what I mean by peak this holiday).

I personally don't want to go back to a screenless controller, for what it has done (streamlined item management, clears HUD clutter off the screen, off tv play, ect) it has perfectly justified itself to me. Not sure what people want from it. So here's hoping the next console keeps the same type of controller.
