Are you excited about amiibos?

At this point the Amiibos are nothing more than glorified and overpriced DLC. IMO it would be much better and cheaper for the consumer if they released small DLC for each thing. Pricing each DLC (Costumes, New weapon) at $1 or even $2 would be cheaper for people to buy then getting ONE Amiibo!!! I see that this is probably a long term plan for Nintendo but as of right now the Amiibos are a ripoff!

I didn't think it possible but nintendo somehow managed to make me care even less about amiibos.

Looking at some of the posts in this thread, it seems like Nintendo may just have a market for cheap, costume type dlc in their games...

Yawn, not for me.  I usually don't care for DLC, and this is like DLC tied to toys.

I'm sure my kid will be excited after his friends have some.

My 8th gen collection

Amiibos for me will be collectors toys.....well, more I want the Legend of Zelda ones.

I want them just to put on my desk

I like the figures and will buy a few of them, but I have to admit the actual functionality of them so far (as a FP in Smash and some minor features in MK and HW) doesn't stick out as too killer just yet.

But I think Nintendo will have a "Nintendo Universe" Skylanders style game for next Christmas which will be dedicated just to amiibo.

Because if you did the whole "well you have to buy the amiibo if you want to unlock this character in Smash", odds are the Smash/Nintendo community would throw a fit (and rightly so). So Nintendo wisely avoided that pitfall.

But right now they're kinda limited to what they can do with the amiibos since there isn't a game specifically made just for them.

I'm getting more excited for it as they announce new features with different games. However, like other people said there needs to be a game build around the amiibo to showcase what it can do at max potential sort of how Wii Sports show what the motion controls of the Wii could do.

Smash was cool but functionality in the other games suck.  I was gonna get one cause I thought other games would get the same kinda support that Smash is, but now I'm not.

I think it has potential. I think they need more games with major functionality though; right now Smash feels like the major game to use them with while the rest are sort of fringe benefits. Now, there ain't nothing wrong with a fringe benefit, but more substantial uses will encourage more purchases. A game designed around them might be a bit of a leap, but who knows.
