Forums - Sony - Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare blocks out Share Play entirely

The typical big wigs are of course gonna try and secure every penny they can get. i.e not letting other users experience their games without purchasing it first.

Does it still not work?

Lolll, wow... So much for working with every game huh? Mean while, steam's family sharing continues to work on virtually every game...

Nope. There are always limitations, whether it's from the publishers themselves or technical

"Can all Steam games be shared with friends and family?

No, due to technical limitations, some Steam games may be unavailable for sharing. For example, titles that require an additional third-party key, account, or subscription in order to play cannot be shared between accounts."

Hence why I said virtually every game and not every game... Most games do work, including the new ones such as Cod AW

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

That's pretty stupid of Activision.

That said, anybody trying to accuse Sony in some way is a know-nothing. Share Play is on for all games by default, but publishers can take specific actions to block it if they so choose. Very few will so choose, as it's fairly silly to make the game less appealing and miss out on the advertising opportunity.

Its not like COD needs another advertising opportunity.

If anything I expect this to be a thing for a couple months and then Activision opens it up when sales slow down. You're losing possible buyers if someone says "Oh I'll just play this game when my friend gets online and have him constantly accept the share play request until I finish the game."

But it does work with every game, but only if the publisher chooses to allow it. You can't force these things on publishers.

Yes, you can. Sony can simply say "hey, no shareplay, no PS4for you." You think Activision would walk away from that much money? PS4 is the leading console and by a large margin. Sony has ALL the power right now. If they wanted to force shareplay, they could.

Terrible idea.
That would drive millions to use other devices (foremost X1 and PC).
Ghosts did almost 3m, Advanced Warfighter shouldn't have issues to reach 5m in a rather short time. Sony would be losing tens of millions dollar from royalties.
That doesn't include lost money from driving people to buy competitors software instead of their own.

You're assuming that Activision would bolt. I don't believe they would. When you look at the marketshare worldwide, releasing on Xbone only would be suicide. Sony could leaverage their install base against them and win this if they wanted to imo.

The game is cross gen. X1, 360 and PC would easily be enough to make a profit (10-15m sales). Not counting the people on PS4 (and PS3 if Sony is strict) that would migrate to one of the other systems.
Activision could bolt easily this time and next year Sony would probably pay for Call of Duty to return to PlayStation after they see what brand damage that caused.

CoD primarily sells on its multiplayer, and since it lacks splitscreen, Share Play can't let the two people play together. A more likely scenario is one friend trying to get another friend back into CoD by letting him try out all of Advanced Warfare's new tools and exoskeletal manoeuvres.

CoD will do well either way, but it strikes me as a bad decision, especially since it's creating so much bad taste in the PS side of the community.

In fact, the only logical thing I can imagine is MS requesting that they turn off PS4's Share Play for the game as part of their very large payment terms. I hadn't considered it earlier, but your post made me do so.

Update, Activision explain absence from SharePlay:

"Delivering a great gaming experience for fans is our top priority," the company says in a statement we received via email. "We’re focused on launching Advanced Warfare and ensuring that people have a great time playing it, which our fans seem to be. Share Play is a new feature that was introduced as part of the recent PS4 firmware 2.00 update. Our engineers didn’t have access to it before it launched, so we haven’t had a chance to evaluate it to see how it will impact the experience across all modes of play. Of course we wouldn’t include a feature in our game without having the chance to test it. Once we’ve fully analyzed its performance, we’ll determine how to support it going forward."
