"On development time, we have already completed the step of learning new development techniques. So, we should experience less developmental delays stemming from learning new hardware. From now on, it becomes a matter of if we can use our experience efficiently and one part of our plan to do so is to use ‘spin off games’, which allow us to use our major title franchises, but create on a smaller scale and we are working hard on making these sort of derived products. In this way, we are preparing to expand on our characters while also increasing the number of software we output and allowing our customers to have their next experiences in certain franchises without waiting three years."

Diddy Kong Racing 2?

No, please.

Omg why wouldn't you want a sequel? I really enjoyed Diddy Kong Racing, setting aside the fact that Diddy Kong is my favorite Nintendo character, I thought it was a good game. A sequel could give them a chance to fix the flaws that were in the first.

Well, if it isn't made by any major studio, then I don't have problems.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

Doesn't matter. Think of Captain Toad. That game's development isn't delaying the next Mario platformer from EAD Tokyo.

"we are preparing to expand on our characters while also increasing the number of software we output and allowing our customers to have their next experiences in certain franchises without waiting three years."

So for instance, 3D World in 2013, theoretical next Mario platformer in 2016, Captain Toad in 2014/2015 as a little dessert. Skyward Sword in 2011, Hyrule Warriors in 2014, Zelda Wii U in 2015. NO ONE ASKED YOU CURL

Anyway as far as I'm concerned, this is just a tease for more collaborations with third parties and more spin-offs that deviate from franchise traditions. It sure sounds like some of these (unannounced) games will be coming out next year, which wouldn't surprise me since this time last year we didn't know Hyrule Warriors or Captain Toad existed.

Yoshi's Woolly World is actually another example of this strategy: Good-Feel is not owned by Nintendo. Star Fox, too, since Nintendo was publicly shopping for a developer to take the helm this past E3.

I'll believe when I see the games churn out in a consistent and timely manner

More spin offs promised? Keep milking nintendo but your flat out refusal to let your biggest projects be new ips is one of the main reasons wiiu is tanking so hard. Keep milking zelda and mario, lets see how far that takes you.

Cynicism is okay but when they announced a new ip. You words weren't all too kind either. They just can't win.

Edit: Damn you, Rol. Ninja'd.

i dont think you understand my point. i didnt criticize splatoon for being a new IP nor did i criticize nintendo for making it. in fact, you bringing this up just reinforces my point. look at the bolded part, and then tell me, is spaltoon on the same scale and ambition as the new zelda they are making? are they putting the same effort in it as they are doing with Smash Bros? no, they arent. and thats my point, nintendos new ips arent being part of their bigger projects, they are playing it safe, which in result is earning them a moddest return. my point in that thread was that spaltoon, while it looks good, isnt as a big or ambitions project as other big TPS games out there like SO or the division for example, yet it was recieving as much attention, is that because its a TPS made by nintendo (which is something out of the usual).

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but isn't this what they've been saying since the beginning?

I always find this kind of news from the big three to be a bit underwhelming, you never know what it actually is. I think 2014 will be hard to beat for the Wii U, in terms of impact at least, the combo of Mario Kart and Smash is quite massive and they are by far their biggest franchises.

As you said yourself, 2014 was MUCH better than 2013/end of 2012. So doesn't that in some way prove what some of those links are saying? The major droughts issue has been greatly addressed this year, and they are saying they want to branch out and keep the support coming. This is GREAT news, and knowing they are continuing  to team up with third parties is great. I at least expect more news for Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem and Pokken Tournament, and while these games won't make consoles fly off  the shelf, they will give more of a solid lineup to Wii U owners.

Nintendo CDI collection HD!

Oh more spin offs, even more reasons not to get a Wii U. Just going to have to wait until Wii U is $100 to play Xenoblade, only game I want.
