Forums - Gaming - Xbox One's biggest problem is gonna take more than a price drop to fix.

I like the comparison to Zune but it isn't true. Well maybe in Europe and Japan X1 is comparable to the Zune but in the rest of the world, its still gonna sell well.

First off I want to say that this isn't meant to be some "DOOM Thread."  The X1 will certainly sell well enough to reach 30 or 40m and it is not about to fall into a black hole.  Also, I never owned in iPod or a Zune.

Simply put, the X1's biggest failure was losing the "It device" fight with the PS4.  I say this is the biggest failure because it is one that is going to hold the Xbox One back for its entire lifetime.  At this point MS will have to move mountains to ever catch up to the PS4 because consumers see it as the inferior product, and no one wants to buy the loser.

My point is perfectly illustrated by the story of the Zune. Before it released I remember seeing this joke on Saturday Night Live:  “On Tuesday, Microsoft released their iPod competitor, the Zune. Zune, as in ‘Hey, your Zune isn’t as cool as my iPod.’

The Zune launched at the same price as the iPod with the same storage capacity.  However the iPod just did what it was meant to do better: Play music.  The iPod was smaller, easier to navigate, and simpler to load up with songs and use.  Yeah the Zune had these other features but they really just distracted from its main purpose...Sound familiar?  Price drops, new features - it DOESN'T MATTER.  People bought the iPod and now by the PS4 to do what they bought them to do.

This is what needs to be sorted out before anything else.

By the way.  The zune had a better quality of sound than the ipod.  Much better, so you are wrong in that regard too.  This fact is pretty universally accepted on audio websites the world over.

The Zune took a while before it got internet I believe. I liked the Zune more than the ipod when it came to just pure listening to music, but all of the Ipods features trumped the Zune, especially after it started mimmicking the iPhone.

I disagree. The ps4 is not the "it" console or item. The ps4 benefited from great PR and an entry point that most people could afford. However, not this is a new ball game. The Xbox One is the only logical place to play this holiday season. With exclusives like Forza Horizon 2, and Halo MCC, and Sunset Overdrive and the most reliable and robust online service available, the Xbox One is the true leader. The combination of games and service with this new price drop only serves to bring the Xbox One to the masses. Thank you Microsoft. We are humbled.

Seriously what the hell Todd is wrong with you?

I guess Xbox is becoming a religion for some.

@ OP

Completely right.  The problem wtih XBO has never been price.  The PS4 outperforming it, even with MS throwing almost everything (changed vision, price cuts, 1-2 games free, and now the 2 month $50 pricecut that will probably become permenant) at it, proves this.  PS4 is just seen as being better by more people, and the XBO getting inferior versions of multiplats isn't going to help change that perception.  While the XBO will sell better than the Zune did against the iPod in the US and the UK, that doesn't change the fact that the situations are similar.

Also, some should really wait and see how poorly the XBO performs next year before they come to the conclusion of how much marketshare the PS4 will have.  Especially when it reaches that $299 sweetspot.

Years ahead?  Really? Maybe minutes or hours, but years no way.

Overall experience I would say that the X1 is the one that is closer to being years ahead.

OS features for gaming can't catche in just minutes or hours.

+ Bad installation times
+ Bad patch system
+ Slow OS and Apps (of course when compared with PS4)
+ No basic feature slike (I don't know) take screeshot
+ No SharePlay
+ No BC gaming streaming
+ Etc (yeat there is more)

So in the next few hours Xbone will catch PS4 in gaming feature?

Xboneone has a great patch system and the apps are fast. Lol are you just talking out your ass? The Xbox one has a few features the ps4 doesn't have which can't cancel out a lot of the other stuff you posted as well.

Like what?  Does it have:

-Bluetooth?

-Customizable Harddrives? (That aren't gimped by USB)

-Support for headphones via the controler?

-15 minutes of game recording?

You can back to talk about patch system when it started to have a reasonable size... not 16GB, 13GB, 20GB, etc... it is just ridiculous compared with PS4.

And you need to use the PS4 apps to see the huge different in terms of speed.

Combined the install system + patch system makes you need to wait over 1 hour to play games in Xbone.

What gaming feature Xbone have over PS4? Suspend/Resume and? Yeap... I know how bad is the situation... can I list the gaming features PS4 have over Xbone now?

PS. I guess you need to make you home lesson first or use a PS4

Note. It is just blow my mind how can anybody create the clain that the Xbone's OS and app are fast or the patch/install system is great... even MS knows the situation about these points.

What patches were that big? I have never actually gone through a os patch as it always happens while I'm away from my home console and I'm asleep or out. Maybe if the ps4 actually updated their OS regularly like Microsoft...yea.
The Xbox one has a few media functionalities over the ps4 as well as a few gaming related ones like suspend resume, snap, etc.

-Sniper Elite V3 was 7GB I believe

-MCC is 20GB

-I'm pretting sure there are more...

The os and the apps are not slow I don't know what your talking about been using it since March and then speeds are fine.

Maybe they have defective Xbone consoles, assuming they even have one at all. I can use Kinect and snap to any app instantly. Or, if I want, just press the home button and my apps are all right there. Nothing slow about it.

Seriously. What is bad about installation times.  So maybe the PS4 is faster, but who gives a rats ass.  I have never notice an install take very long.  Now I get everything digital so maybe installing from a disc takes longer, but again who gives a rats ass. It is done once and then over.

Bad patch system. How so. I have never noticed anything, except getting great system updates nearly every month.

Never have ever noticed the apps or OS are slow.  Not to mention Xbox OS is actually beautiful and PS4 well it is just more of the poor UI I have been used to from Sony for years.

Seriously taking a screenshot is a basic core feature that we need.  Not until hearing that MS delayed it until January did I ever think it was something I needed (Still dont).

Shareplay - OK so one new feature that the PS4 has the Xbox One doesnt.  Never had a want for this, but who knows.

Streaming of old games. OK maybe you care.  Maybe someday I will care.  Right now no.

As for more we all could put together lists of features.   I for one love Snap. Playing a game while having the World Series snapped, or NFL Fantasy Football snapped.  Or watching a NFL game with the NFL Fantasy Football app snapped. Thats cool and much more valuable to me then taking a screenshot.

The thing is MS has been very aggressively pushing out new features every month the PS4 not so much.

Gaming patches... just compare... it is crazy the difference.

10GB, 12GB, 14GB, etc are common size of patch in Xbone since release... it didn't changed yet.

For one how do you even know the size. I have never once cared nor looked to see how large a patch is. Like someone else said. They just happen in the background. Why would I care.

For another, maybe it is because they arent just patches.  The Xbox One gets new features added all the time, not just patches.
