Most remasters are games from the previous gen. There's really no reason to remake a game from the ground up unless it's at least 2 gens old, such as Ruby/Sapphire, Halo 2, or Ratchet & Clank. And all 3 of those are very different from their originals regarding visuals.

Well, Nintendo treats remakes as another new release. Sad, IMO; but that's why they make such good remakes.
Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Nintendo does own the best remake, in my opinion, with Zero Mission. But other studios are capable of great remakes, for example Grin with Bionic Commando Rearmed and Capcom with Resident Evil (2002).
Pokemon ORAS looks ugly for todays standards, look how far ahead Digimon is on Vita.

Pokemon should be looking more like this
I would think that all it would take is look at the list of remakes to finally shut up FF7 fans.
I mean is there really ever a full on remake? The one in the first post pokemon Omega Ruby, ect and a few select other games are very veyr very very small minority.
Most remakes just are resolution upgraded and tweaks in controls, ect.
Why people ever think FF7 is going to be remade to look like FF13 is beyond me. Expect it to be thrown on the 3DS or something and be just fine tuned and polished, but still in the same graphical category, with the whole blockiness. Just like all the 8-bit games keep their 8-bit style.
Well, they change up the gameplay too.
I would like Earthbound 1-3 remakes too.

Wow, gotta be honest, that looks light years beyond Pokemon. Maybe Pokemon on Fusion can look similar to that.

Even a proper RPG on WiiU like this would have been nice, the only time we got real Pokemon RPGs on console was GCN =(
