Forums - Gaming - The Order: 1886 new not so linear video (Player explores instead of completing objective)

I hate how sony does not market some games almost at all.
Look at Gran Turismo 6 for instance. It sold nothing compared to the other ones.
To be honest I don't care about the order's marketing.
I care more about LBP3 that is probably gonna be a great game, and it feels like Sony has left it on its own.

GT6 did lack a push but come on, all on here know those GT6 numbers are ahem you know.

You do know this gen they are out spending MS at marketing.

I'm still looking forward to it. I like the style of the game and some of the gunplay looks great. This game obviously has something going for it, it seems to attract more non-Sony fans than Sony fans to every thread after all

Nah.. you're just being unreasonable and are looking for something negative to hold on to.

There was nothing wrong with that segment they were showing off. Instead of just showing off the scene completely, they actually put you in control. Instead of just showing Galahad shoot the hybrid, they actually put you in the scene where you can possibly die. Oh it's SooooOOOooo horrificly horrible..

If anything, that makes this game better. I dont recall any other game doing that(I could be wrong but I doubt it) and here you are trying to turn that into a negative..

Four seconds of gameplay between cutscenes does not a video game make...I personally, don't feel frightened or immersed if every 5 seconds in a tense scene I get to sit back and breathe while the game shows me what my character is doing instead of letting me do it myself. I think I gave a pretty detailed response to your question, I find it unreasonable that you brush it off as me being unreasonable. You can feel however you want about this type of gameplay, but don't pretend that I have no point.

People prefer a whole cinematic it seems, it is less disturbing in a TPS. But if they would think a bit, they would understand it's the same thing than games like WD, HR, D4,.. Like i said to many who disliked, what is better ? A cinematic you watch, or an interactive cinematic ? Most games have gameplay + cinematic, The Order has gameplay + interactive cinematic, it seems too much disturbing or innovative because no one understand that, they prefer to think "interactive cinematic is the whole gameplay" while the last trailer show they are wrong

I have a hard time understanding what you are saying in this comment, but I would like to ask, why does there need to be cinematics at all? Games should try to give players control as often as possible, only taking it away when absolutely necessary. Many of the mini-cutscenes I see in The Order gameplay just don't need to exist. With some better design you could keep the players in the game and introduce some gameplay variety in one fell swoop, instead of leaning back on the cop out of cutscenes.

This is the only gameplay we've seen with so many cutscenes, the other has not so many cutscene, just like Uncharted/Quantum Break.

The developpers specified the game let you experience by yourself in other parts. So cant really judge on 5min.

What other gameplay shows something differerent? I just watched this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgW-_ZH2STI ) which showed another short section and it seemed to be the same thing.

Where is the gameplay (not a trailer, gameplay) that shows anything different? To clarify, I don't think the Order is going to be bad (from what I've seen), just unremarkable.

Also, I would like to say that I think it is entirely fair to judge a game based on what the developer/publisher has showed us. I can't rightly judge it on the things they haven't showed us, can I? My conclusion based on these facts is just as fair as anyone elses conclusion based on the same facts. You can't just write off all negative opinions because the game isn't out yet. There were plenty of people telling me that I couldn't judge Destiny based on the beta because it was "just a beta", but my criticisms rang true on release day...

But you are. And you DON'T have a point about the cutscene..

A game that allows me to interact within some of the cutscenes? OH GOD THIS IS SO TERRIBLE!! You actually attempted to call it too many cutscenes. I dont see the problem. It's an interactive cutscene and you dont like it. YOU are the problem.

Also, it does immerse you in the game more than it would just watching the cutscene and you dont need to be frightened. Resident Evil 4 never frightened me. The only game that I feel can really frighten me these days is maybe a good Silent Hill. Does that mean that RE4 cant feel frightened anybody else just because it didn't really frighten me?

Either way these interactive cutscenes are better and are welcomed in the future as long as they are done right( they did it perfectly in the demo when the hybrid started making his way toward galahad). I just feel that this isn't the ideal gameplay to show off at E3.

It would've been fine if you just kept it about them improving the gunplay or something.

But but but.. it has too many cutscenes! ..Stop it

now tweakup the gameplay to add more variety

Most requested feature

This level is near the begnning of the game, so surely it isn't really representative of the general gameplay.

Not to say that their is nothing really wrong with the gameplay shown here.

Really excited for this game. Evolve, The Order: 1886, Dragon Ball: Xenoverse, Bloodborne and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are day one buys for me.

Almost all games are cinematic in the beginning of the game, it's because it's the introduction into the story..  the Cinematic will be getting bigger gaps along the story line, where the Gameplay will be more heavily focused. The first time you play, the first monster you meet? that is where the cinematic will be the strongest. but the next time you meet them, it will be 90% Gameplay and 10% cinematic..  Cinematics are also used as a more entertaining tutorial. i hate tutorials where it's 100% tutorial, like a practise range..  Keep the hope and optimism up

the constant bitching about this being a linear game doesnt make much sense. why on earth is an open world game better than a linear one by default? we have so many open world games out and coming out its not even funny. watch dogs, dead rising, destiny, witcher, dying light, dead island, AC4, AC Unity, AC Rogue, the division, MGS5, sunset over drive, infamous, farcry, the crew, FH2 and a lot, lot more. why on earth does every game need to be open world?

Too many cutscenes can be a serious issue to some people. I get horribly bored when a game lets me play for a bit then takes control away on a constant basis. I remember playing Sly cooper thieves in time and becoming incredibly frustrated when levels were interupted by cutscene after cutscene.  Too many games are using cutscences as a cop out, games like bioshock prove you can have a solid narrative without taking control away from the player too often.
