Of course costing $100 less than competition didn't matter.

That's incredibly pessimistic |
PS4 stands at 12M right now. If if reaches 16M by december 31, it will have sold 4M in two months.
That's a great mark really for a console that isn't going to have a big system seller this holidays and which is by no means cheap.

I'm sorry but the thought of the PS4 only selling 4.2 million over the course of the next eleven and a half weeks is mind blowing. There are plenty of third party games being released and who cares if they're multiplatform, they're better on the PS4 and that's where the majority of gamers are going to be purchasing them. Again, predictions like 15 and 16 million are not feasible, at all.

That is pessismistic for the dominative console.
PS3 did 4,4M while it was " selling bad" first year, so PS4 shoud reach 5,5-6M at least
Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:
PS4: 17m XB1: 10m WiiU: 10m Vita: 10m

The PS3 at freaking $600 dollars with "no games" and no where near the hype of the PS4 sold about 3.5mil in 2007 in the same time frame. So you are saying the PS4 will only sell 500k more than that?
The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

The thing is it's not 2 months, it's 3, going from the 4th of October.
December will probably be 3 million by itself, 2 million for November easy.
Worse case scenario is 18 million assuming PS4 only sells a million this month.

I strongly disagree with that; MS made fools of themselves first and foremost by making Kinect mandatory but almost sunk themselves into the abyss with the DRM scandal and Don Mattrick's charismatic response to people being upset about the (horrible) always online and check-in idea.
This;
was the real problem; this attitude paired with 100$ higher starting price and forcing a jazzed up interface tool on consumers for the extra premium is what happened. Sony isn't really guilty of poor sportsmanship in this instance (the used game tutorial was borderline but still in good humor); MS managed that towards their own potential and existing customers and that is the worst thing you can do.

Yeah and being twice as powerful hasn't helped in anyway at all either....LOL any console product that sells this well will always have logical reasons for it. Don't let your bias get the best of you people.
I think its safe to assume that the PS4 had at least crossed 12M as of the end of september. Even if it does 500k in october that puts it at 12.5M at the end of october.
I don't really see it doing 5.5M between november and december. 4M or 4.5M is my guess. Which will put it at 16.5M or 17M for the end of the year.
