Damn no wonder the ps4 is beasting

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

I recently swapped the PS4 500 gb HDD for a 2TB one, and the first thing I did was re-install all the games. Even the largest games like TLOU which takes 50gb only took less than 60 seconds and I removed the disc. UNless it only part installed it and even though I removed the disc it would continue to install the next time I put the disc back in? (I guess it might be doing that, no way to tell or see it though)

Probably. I don't have any next gen console, but I can tell you that there doesn't exist a HDD that could transfer data at such high rates.

The fastest HDD has a write speed of about 250 MB/s under ideal circumstances. the fastest SSD about 500 MB/s under ideal circumstances.

on the HDD TLOU would need 205 seconds
on the SSD TLOU would need 102 seconds

Chances are that your 2TB HDD doesn't have 10000rpm and doesn't run under ideal circumstances and has a write speed of closer to ~150 MB/s, which would then take 341 seconds.

But even 341 seconds is much much faster than 1 hour the OP claims it takes XOne to do it.

Actually I might have found an answer to that as I just browsed google. Also I should point out only Forza has taken this long, most the other games I have installed though take a long time, are probably closer to 15 minutes on average.

Anyway, it might have taken that game so long to install as I read somewhere the XBO install patches before the game, so it may have had a very large patch to do first? but I wasnt at my console when it started to be sure, I went to make a sandwich as I knew it would take over 10 minutes. But was expecting it to be close to done when I came back, which it wasnt :(

as I just said, it's just copying a few necessary files to start and it then reads the rest from the disc while you're playing. At the same time it's still copying files in the background.

The Need For Speed video seems to show a full game install. The progress bar finished. It doesn't do that if you've merely installed the neccesary files to play. Check this Killzone instal for example: http://youtu.be/o35909fq3BM
The progress bar didn't finish, and it gives you a message saying you can begin playing anyway while it's installing.

PS4 actually installs games much faster than XBO, as showed in the list posted above.
Although one hour for Forza certainly doesn't sound right...

Rivals isn't that big though. From what I found it's ~16GB. Possible with SSD.
But that's not the standard.

The X1's terribly long install time have been a thing since day 1 and it doesn't look like they will go away with updates. So far none of the updates has had a positive effect on it.

I really wonder where those differences come from. It's the same developers and practically the same hardware. There must be something on the X1 that hinders partial installs. Or something on the PS4 that facilitates it.

If it's only a software issue MS should be able to patch it.

PS4 has a secondary ARM processor to assist with background installations and other OS features.

60 seconds to install GB's worth of content? No I do not believe that for a moment.

Hell the PS3 installation is an utter joke aswell you download the content and then have to wait again for it to install. Unlike the 360 where you simply download and then BAM its ready to launch.

LOL don't believe what?  It is a fact that PS4 games take about a minute to install.

It's not like it's magic people. I don't get why some of you are in such disbelief. Just do your research (called Google).

I am the Playstation Avenger.

Yeah downloading and installing Titanfall has been my most painful next gen experience yet

because ps4 was designed to be a gaming console and xbox was designed to be a cable box.
