Forums - Sony - Why does Sony release unfinished Products and take forever to Update?

All three console makers release unfinished products, as they should be given how they can improve them going forward. Sony have been slow to update some features of PS4 sure. But MS are not perfect either, they released Xbox One with a ton of missing basic missing features, perhaps to focus on getting Kinect ready, which they dropped within half a year despite promising numerous times they would never do so. They are also guilty of being very American-centric with their entertainment options. And Nintendo are even slower than Sony, they still use region lock and have had a backwards mentality to accounts for years.

So yes Sony should be updating features on PS4 quicker, but they are by no means the only guilty party in terms of releasing unfinished products

Probably because they have a list of priorities, and everything you've mentioned is lower down on the list. That's my guess.

But some of these are directly related to the success of the product. Sure, PS4 is doing just fine without getting some of the promised features. Yet PS TV pretty much needs Netflix to even be relavent, why does it not have it day one? No common consumer(who should be main focus audience) is going to be interested in this device unless it can do what all the other similar devices promise as well. At this point it is a cheaper PS Vita with less functionality and not portable. They could have just released the rumored HDMI cord that connects into Vita's mystery plug for all this trouble.

Netflix is on everything, I've got half a dozen Netflix capable devices in the house, as it is.   It being on PSTV isn't even on the list of things I feel are important.

Most of what you're talking about are properties owned by other corporations. Deals have to be worked out. In the case of some PS1 games, there are conflicts.

As far as being complete at launch, none of the console were even close to that and probably never will be again. There is too much riding on launching first/not launching last.

What I would like to know is what the hell is up with their servers; it always takes forever to download and install updates, firmware and patches.

I personally havn't had any problems with the patches and updates on PS4. But the Driveclub situation is ridiculous

Because time is infinite, and what seems to you as forever is just a tiny sliver of a fraction of an interval in time. As technology improves, people become more impatient, and while they were content to travel for months across Atlantic, today they get upset if it takes more than 5 hours.

In all actualty, Sony is lightning fast, it is just you who is living a much faster lifestyle. You should slow down and enjoy life, short as it is, and the updates will come even faster than expected.

Features shown and promoted before launch are lower down the priortiy list?  Suspend and resume was mentioned at the reveal, thats over 1 1/2 years ago.

Isn't that what I just said?  Yep, it's what I just said.

When was the last time a console was "complete" at launch? 6th gen? All three current gen consoles are either still missing features, or just got them within the last few months.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

So a feature touted as a launch feature and shown in the reveal is now lower down the priority list.

Ok.  But in that case they lied and falsley advertised imo.

So file a lawsuit.

I got Driveclub at launch and was able to get a couple online races in before the servers got shut down. I avoided playing all together because I didn't want to do anything while not being in a club yet. I would check frequently to see if the servers were back up but they wern't for a couple of days. So I was like "fuck it!" and decided to play some single player instead but I kept getting kicked off.

You know like how in Destiny it will kick you off of the game and send you back to orbit if something happened to your connection? Yea the same was happening to me in Driveclub as if it was an Online only game or someshit. So I tried again like the next day to see if the servers were back up and they finally were(this was yesterday) so I immediately joined a club and tried a single player race and was able to play. I then tried to play another multiplayer race but it kept saying that I couldn't because something would happen with the connection. Also, the challenges mode was down despite the servers being back up yesterday.

As I was playing the single player, I was thinking " where is that weather that I was seeing in those video?"

We already had to wait an extra year for the game to release and now that it's here.. we still have to wait for the full game to release in a damn patch.

Before I tried Driveclub yesterday I noticed that there was a patch available so I installed it before playing. I dont know if that was supposed to be the weather patch but I just know that I havn't seen it yet in the couple races I've played

All in all, this whole Driveclub situation was a complete #Fail!

This online shit IS NOT the future of gaming

Yeah the Driveclub fiasco is really unfortunate.  Sony should setup an internal stress testing group among highly active PS players, because this kind of bullshit can ruin a developer.

As far as the weather update is concerned, it's definitely not out yet.  All patches are for server stability and fixing their launch screwups, they said to expect another over the weekend.
