Forums - Nintendo - Wii U, the only Nintendo home console without a must have Mario platformer?

You know alot of people dont like Super Mario Sunshine...

Mario 3D World on Wii U is an excellent game, I've been very impressed with it overall.

I wanted it and it's excellent. I hope they give us another one down the line.

You ought to play/buy 3D World. Try by yourself and with a friend or preferably two! It's more must-have than Mario Sunshine, for sure!

I'd consider it a broad appealing probably must have game for every WiiU owner, unless they're really averse to platformers.

Troll Bait thread. Reviews contradict your topic from about every reputable review source. Sales and minority opinions don't bring credit to this thread.

I'm not certain if Nintendo view Mario 3d world as a true 3D Mario title like Super Mario 64, Sunshine and Galaxy. If they do, chances are that we won't see another true 3D Mario title on the Wii U given how badly it is selling. The Wii go two full blown 3D Mario games(Galaxy I & II) whilst the N64 and the Gamecube only received one each(Super Mario 64 and Sunshine, respectively). In my opinion this was due to the low sales of the N64 and Gamecube, it simply was not worth the man-power to make another full fledged 3D Mario. This was not the case with the Wii which was selling insanely at the time and had a very large user base. Probably smarter to dedicate those developers to finishing up the Wii U incarnation of Zelda...

I would really love to see a full blown 3D Mario on the Wii U hardware. Galaxy was great and made up for Sunshine's disappointments. I don't think they should focus on the gamepad second screen gimmick though, it's about as innovative as the Six-axis function on the Dual Shock 3. Just focus on polished visuals, inventive worlds and that magical Mario gameplay!

install base has nothing to do with why Wii got two 3D Mario's and N64/GC only got one. Mario 64 sold more than Galaxy on 1/3 the install base so that rules out your theory.

i think it was Miyamoto who said they had so many ideas for Galaxy but they didnt have enough time to incorporate them all so they made a sequel.

Ahhh valid point actually.Mario 64 was the best selling N64 game and had a very high attach rate especially with the userbase quantity. I loved that game...

3D World is far more of a must have than Sunshite.

What I found interesting and surprising about Super Mario 3D World was how the game disappointed me at first, when it was announced and first shown, and how finally playing the game totally changed all that.

Just like most people, I wanted a great follow-up to the Galaxy masterpieces. But 3D World is actually just as good, even if the style is different. The level design and platforming are really outstanding. And there isn't much better satisfaction than when you finally succeed in completing the Champion's Road. =D

A masterpiece even compared to the other Mario titles. The game is just pure fun, and in my case, playing ended up believing.

Super Mario Sunshine is only a must have in certain people's opinion. Just like 3d World.

I would actually go on a limb and say that 3D World is more of a "must-own" Mario game than Sunshine! Sunshine was just....bleh! :/

To the topic creator, to call Sunshine a must-have Mario game and then to dismiss 3D World is criminal. Having played both I consider the latter considerably better than the former. 3D World is so much more than just a 3D Land sequel, I thought the community had figured that out by now. Just buy the game and you'll see how must-have is - I promise you will not be disappointed.

NSMBU is not must-have, but you know what, it's the best NSMB game there is. Find time for it some day, especially if you can get it fairly cheap - I think it's a very overhated game, I had a lot of fun playing through it the last couple of weeks.

The Wii U does lack a Mario game (or any game for that matter) that hits the heights of the Galaxy duo. I hope one is in the pipeline, but who knows. For now my main hope of a game of that quality comes from Zelda rather than Mario.

I won't buy 3D World, as I said, I don't like the style of this game. I don't like the camera, I don't like the small scale of the world, I don't like the multiplayer platformer, I don't like being in a small corridor in a 3D game, I don't like the ridiculous cat gimmick and I don't like the fact it does not even make full use of the analogic stick.

The thing is that the Wii U will end with the only Nintendo home console where I would not have any Mario platformer, and that's not being I don't want to buy it. I Nintendo had released a new full scale 3D Mario, I would have bought the Wii U beofre MK8. I would buy the next Mario without any hesitation if it wasn't a 2.5 Land or World game.
