Forums - Gaming - Can New 3DS push 3DS to 100 M?

Will N3DS help 3DS make it too 100M?

Yes 143 44.00%

No 182 56.00%

Guys, the only way Nintendo sees 100 million is if they produce the 3DS for the next 10 years. Realistically, the 3DS doesn't have half that many years left.

Do you honestly believe anymore than a million current 3DS owners are going to double-dip for a game that sold less than a million copies on the Wii? Because the only reason to buy a New 3DS for current 3DS owners is Xenoblade Chronicles.

MH4G+SSB 3DS and other games can justify the purchase, not just XC

Let's atleast wait to see how big the baseline boost is shall we? Anyway I don't really see tge N3ds providing the same boost in the west as in Japan.

Nah. But even if it does, it doesn't mean anything. There will always be idiots like me who will point out that the numbers are unnaturally inflated by poeple double dipping.

Yes, double dipping isnt heard of for Home Consoles and other HH's? I think many will over exaggerate 3ds's numbers. Sold=Sold. People upgrade all the time, do you think ps2 actually was in 155mil homes owned by 155mil different people for example? :0

This is different. New SKUs usually don't deliver more features or exclusive games. That's why no one does double dip on them. The exception being defect consoles and environment conscious people with too much money. There was just no reason for someone who owned a launch PS2 or PS3 to "upgrade" to a flimsy mini version of the same thing. If anything all these slim versions deliver even less features than the launch versions.

The new 3DS has exclusive games that all fans of these games will prompt to double dip. A group that is arguably a lot bigger than the aforementioned.

You just love to compare things that have no similarities do you?

So every N3DS owner is getting XC right? I mean looking at japan sales, im sure all 230k double dipped for N3DS exclusive titles that haven't released at all (and just 1 being a Wii Port).

Its the same argument with Double SKU games, Not even close to half the people double dip for those. (,Pokemon)

Wait what? Now you're just imagining words I never said. I highlighted the important bits for you.

I said that the number of people who double dip on a device with new features(like exclusive content) is much higher than the number of people who double dip for a device that has less features(like removing backwards compatibility). And those numbers differ too much to be compared in any feasible way.

Maybe you have an estimate for the percentage of people who double dip on a regular slim SKU with no additional features.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

And these days there are plenty of rumours saying the 3DS could get a successor within the next couple of years...

Never heard of these, not after the New 3DS reveal at least. I can only see its successor coming out in 2017. At least 2015 is absolutely impossible, they'd never release a successor in the same year as the new SKU - and 2016 is already 5 years, considerably longer than the GBA's lifespan. Which is funny when you think about it, the GBA sold 80m with just a 3 year lifespan, and the 3DS will maybe get there if it has twice as much time.

I think the N3DS squashes the rumours of a successor early too.2017 is probably when

I bet you said the same for japan :P (giving a boost to japan  i mean)

I don't think it will, but regardless, the N3DS will still do very well

80M is my bet.

It shouldn't be able to because I'm expecting it to receive enough exclusives for it to be able to result as a different console.
