Forums - Microsoft Discussion - NPD: Xbox One physical copies of Destiny outsold PS4. (Not bundled or digital)

Sony sold more physical as well. See post above. It's just that NPD doesn't count bundles.

damn to much argument for something that's obvious, ps4 sold more physical copies than xbox one. its irrelevant from where its comes because nobody knows, heck for all we know, alot of existing ps4 owners could have chose to buy the bundle just for the white bundle, otherwise they would have chose to buy the game individually

There are a few things that factor into this:

1.) The X1 userbase has a higher proportion of shooter fans since it is more of a dudebro console and heavily advertised as such. The PS4 userbase is not as shooter centric.

2.) Last month, you could get Destiny with an X1 for free. Heck, you could get two games with an X1 for free!!

Overall, it's not surprising. In fact, I expected the X1 version of Destiny to do much better than this because that deal had incredible value.

Small victories, lol.

I guess someone didn't understand my initial post. Having a bundle is an advantage!

Allow me to debunk this whole notion that the Xbox userbase is more "Dude-Bro" / shooter centric than the PlayStation userbase is, because quite honestly it's really irksome...

Wow, look at all those non-shooters on that list.  Once again, 6/10 are FPS, and 2/4 remaining are shooter-heavy action games,

And that was LAST gen, where the 360 dominated the NA market which is generally considered the more FPS-friendly territory... but if you compare regions Europe is just as big on shooters, especially on PS3.

Now, on to the current gen of...

Wow... look at all those "Dude-Bro" games on there.  Just 4/10 are shooters (I'm including Destiny in that of course).  Now let's check out the PS4...

PS4 WW Top 10:

Pos Game Year Genre Publisher North America Europe Japan Rest of World Global
1. Destiny 2014 Action Activision 1.49 1.02 0.11 0.63 3.25

10. The Last of Us 2014 Adventure Sony Computer Entertainment 0.49 0.58 0.05 0.34 1.46

Once again, same ratio of shooters (4/10), and  it ain't just NA carrying those shooter numbers either... Europe is just as big on these games such as BF4 and in fact even more so for the likes of Killzone.

Bottom like is while yes, FPS are generally bigger in NA, especially the likes of COD and Halo, that doesn't mean the Xbox platform is the lone "shooter box" platform... far from it.  In fact, this gen it's looking like the PS4 will be the shooter box / dude-bro leader when all is said and done.

-SNIP-

You can't just look at the Top 10 games. If you expand that list, the Xbox brand is clearly more dudebro, especially when you take sales of non-shooters like Tales of Vesperia and The Lost Odyssey into account. The 360 userbase just did not care about JRPGs or any other genre that is not action, shooter, or sports oriented. Meanwhile, IPs like LittleBigPlanet, Ratchet & Clank, Gran Turismo, and Journey sold really well on the PS3. This leads to another problem to your argument in that dudebro is an umbrella term for shooters, action, and sports. You've limited your analysis to just shooters which are only part of the dudebro definition.

You have also missed the second part of my point: the X1 being advertised as a dudebro console. The X1 is getting a Sunset Overdrive and COD:AW bundle later this season. It is also being heavily advertised as the "official console of the NFL" during football games. I just don't see as much diversity on the X1 as I see from the PS4. Meanwhile, the PS4 will be getting LittleBigPlanet 3 and Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- later this year.

The last point I should make is that there can be more dudebro gamers on the PS4 while a higher proportion of the X1 userbase be dudebro. After all, the PS4 is outselling the X1 by a huge margin. For instance, the PS4 is selling roughly twice as much, so 50% of the PS4 userbase equals 100% of the X1 userbase. Even if the PS4 userbase may have more dudebro gamers, its library will also be covering other genres such as platformers, western and Japanese RPGs, fighters, open-world, and sandbox because PS4 gamers are also interested on those kinds of games.

It seems you misunderstood his. No one denied bundles = advantage. No shit. Point is, you say "physical all the way", as if it did some real work. The PS4 version is ahead in all major territories. The X1 physical copies sold a mere 75K more, in the US, if we exclude everything else.

What does the title say?????

This thread is clearly to discuss the physical copies and not digital. If the title said " digital" I would agree but it isn't the case.

Stay on topic next time.

Yes.. I know..  Digital copies and bundles are not included.  But I was still very suprised about this!   This was pushed as a better on PS4 title..  All the advertising only said PS4..  so I am still surprised that it outsold ...   Yes.. with Digitial and PS4 Destiny bundles we know PS4 sold more copies of the game.. but still..

Why are you surprised ?

Destiny - XBO ~35%, PS4 ~33%, 360 ~23%, PS3 ~9%, 2.5m (without bundle), but XBone got counted in with MS "buy a XBone get a free game" sale, where many many of those ''Free Game Bundled'' was Destiny.

In the end, Destiny sold better on PS4(NA) !

In the Global, a massacre.

I'm actually very on topic, since it is about physical Destiny copies sold (which I discussed). In fact, you brought up bundles (off-topic, yeah?), and I also included that in our little chat.

You should, at least, attempt to tackle what I said, or my assumption that you have no argument is dead on.

Yes I said physical all the way because the Xbox version outsold the physical version of ps4 in the US. Then you came along (like always) and spin around what I said.

I said physical all the way because Xbox sold more on physical despite all the advantages Sony had. Ex: exclusive dlc/ exclusive marketing rights.
