Forums - Microsoft - Halo: The Master Chief Collection will have a 20GB day one "content update".

And remember that if it were two discs, that would completely wreck the functionality and experience of the unified interface. Trust me, two discs would have been easier in a lot of ways.

Why would that wreck the functionality and the unified interface. The disks are only the delivery system, everything gets installed to hdd anyway. The game could allow you to play while the 2nd disk is being installed, when that's done it would always require the first or play disk to be in the drive. That has been the situation on pc for years, no disk swapping required.

And to think, that back in the day devs had to do silly things like finish the game before shipping. Truly was the stone age of game development.

I thought 20GB is small fry for a leading country like US and UK ? yet so many people complain? i wonder about the rest of the Xbox one owner around the world. Just imagine if DRM is implemented Lol, it would make thing worse.

Well for me 20GB would take ~ 5.5 hours to download (1MB/s is my top speed), but more importantly use up 2/5 of my monthly quota. If I hit that I get throttled down to 256kbps  (~ 25 kB/s) which is nearly unusable on the modern internet and would stop me playing online effectively until the month ended.

Personally I've always had very little patience for day 1 patches, regardless of the size. I get that there is lead time with stamping the disks, but if you aren't ready then you shouldn't be in production. It comes down to this ongoing trend of game developers using paying customers as beta testers, ship something that works just well enough to not be considered broken, then fix with patches. Now its going beyond that, with game developers leaving actual game content to a patch because they can't finish it in time for production start. If the trend continues it'll end up with the disks being merely used to store a code that allows you to download the entire game.

We are talking about 4 games in one here. That's roughly 40 hours of campaign and a little over 100 multiplayer maps. Not sure why some people are surprised that they couldn't fit the whole game on 1 blu-ray without compromising quality due to heavy compression.

just like when forza 4 had so much content they made you download the install disk and buy just the play disk right?

no reason they couldnt have just put the data on a second disk and made it install the content to hdd so you only needed first disk in to play.

they just went with one because its cheaper to manufacture,  screw the hundreds of thousands with data caps or slow new.

that wouldnt fit on disk explanation pretty much confirms that not only are you buying an incomplete game,  but you're shit out of luck if you eventually wanted to play it far off in the future when the servers are gone.

nobody should be defending this bs practice,  regardless of console platform,  anything over 1gb on launch day is unacceptable,  but having it be both over 1gb and mandatory is just a clusterfuck.

the game is done if you buy the digtal verison you will dl the extra 20gigs   the reason there is 20 gig dl day one is due to 343 filling up the disk

Uuuuhhh....If you have average American internet that's an hour and a half download time, not including instillation and downloading the game itself. That's garbage.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Yeah, that's why I think they should come up with an alternate solution, at least for the folks who have a cap, or have insufficient bandwidth to deal with 20g, not everyone has:

Yeah I'm running about a 115 when I'm hardwired (which my PS3 is) but I also know people who have internet of less than 10Mb/s. It would take them forever to download this thing.
