Yeah, that's why I think they should come up with an alternate solution, at least for the folks who have a cap, or have insufficient bandwidth to deal with 20g, not everyone has:

Yeah I'm running about a 115 when I'm hardwired (which my PS3 is) but I also know people who have internet of less than 10Mb/s. It would take them forever to download this thing.

Yeah, I still get a kick out of checking my speed.  Seeing how much things have increased, over the ~20 years I've had net access at home...it's freakin nuts.   But, I'm more than aware that these speeds just aren't accessible (or affordable) by everyone.  Devs and Console makers really need to take that into account when they have these massive updates.  Not that I don't appreciate the extra effort, I'm sure all gamer's do.  It's just...well, many of those gamer's won't have the option to, and it's extremely unfair to those individuals to have day 1 updates of this size.

I dont even know why people are complaining about this. Most likely this is just for multi player content something someone with no internet couldnt use anyways, and for everyone else just play the campaign until the download is finished or maybe you can play whats already on the disc online while you wait for the rest to download?. and if you have a real slow internet multiplayer must suck anyway with the lag .

You hit the nail right on the head.

Not really, MP gaming doesn't require a massive amount of bandwidth, if you're not hosting (and even if you are, it's still not that big of a bandwidth hog).  Now, if it's as Zero suggest, and it's simply MP content and it's not a required Day 1 update, that's ok.  I still think it'd be a good move for them to come up with an alternative for folks who don't have high bandwidth/cap at their disposal.  On the other hand, not to denigrate the SP (I'm sure it's great), but wasn't the MP the bigger aspect of it's popularity (could be wrong, of course)?

We are talking about 4 games in one here. That's roughly 40 hours of campaign and a little over 100 multiplayer maps. Not sure why some people are surprised that they couldn't fit the whole game on 1 blu-ray without compromising quality due to heavy compression.

just like when forza 4 had so much content they made you download the install disk and buy just the play disk right?

no reason they couldnt have just put the data on a second disk and made it install the content to hdd so you only needed first disk in to play.

they just went with one because its cheaper to manufacture,  screw the hundreds of thousands with data caps or slow new.

that wouldnt fit on disk explanation pretty much confirms that not only are you buying an incomplete game,  but you're shit out of luck if you eventually wanted to play it far off in the future when the servers are gone.

nobody should be defending this bs practice,  regardless of console platform,  anything over 1gb on launch day is unacceptable,  but having it be both over 1gb and mandatory is just a clusterfuck.

So even if i buy this games in the near future let say 6 years from now, do I still have to download 20 gb? If i have to download the game then, thats mean if the server is going down, then this games is probably failed before it's even sale it  to the gamers.

I thought 20GB is small fry for a leading country like US and UK ? yet so many people complain? i wonder about the rest of the Xbox one owner around the world. Just imagine if DRM is implemented Lol, it would make thing worse.

Well for me 20GB would take ~ 5.5 hours to download (1MB/s is my top speed), but more importantly use up 2/5 of my monthly quota. If I hit that I get throttled down to 256kbps  (~ 25 kB/s) which is nearly unusable on the modern internet and would stop me playing online effectively until the month ended.

Personally I've always had very little patience for day 1 patches, regardless of the size. I get that there is lead time with stamping the disks, but if you aren't ready then you shouldn't be in production. It comes down to this ongoing trend of game developers using paying customers as beta testers, ship something that works just well enough to not be considered broken, then fix with patches. Now its going beyond that, with game developers leaving actual game content to a patch because they can't finish it in time for production start. If the trend continues it'll end up with the disks being merely used to store a code that allows you to download the entire game.

the game is done if you buy the digtal verison you will dl the extra 20gigs   the reason there is 20 gig dl day one is due to 343 filling up the disk

Then why not span the game over two disks instead? If it was definitely done prior to going to print, then forcing people to download a 20 GB patch just to save 40 cents on another disk is pretty petty. Given that it runs off the HDD you'd only need to put the second disk in for the install, once thats done it would be like every other game from a usability point of view, so I don't get your point about two disks ruining the unified interface.

Well that sucks for people with slow internet.

That's the entire US. Even with FIOS, this would still take 3-4 hrs.

I have FIOS and it won't take me anywhere close to 3-4 hours.

Anyway, interesting to see some people twist this as a negative. It's just a shitload of content. It doesn't seem like it affects anyone not interested in online play and if you have bad data caps you probably aren't playing online much anyway.

That's cray cray @_@

No it's 4 games, it wouldn't all fit on one disc. They didn't cheap out on the game, that's what this says. The disc is full.

Jesus I hope they fix that with a second run of discs, that's ungodly huge for any poor bastards with data caps and or slow Internet. I know a couple people who use tethered wifi from their cell phones because they live in areas where there is no broadband, so they get 5gb of lte and going over is redonk expensive.

It's 4 games, it won't fit.

Dude add this to the forum or all you're doing is allowing people to make up random ideas to Trash XBOX.

343 Industries have revealed that players will need to download a day one patch of 20GB in order to play Halo: The Master Chief Collection when it launches this November exclusively for the Xbox One, because they've already utilised all of the space on a standard Blu-ray disc.

I will stay away from this stinker as one avoids the Ebola.

A horrible disease which makes you bleed all over and has a high mortality rate = a 20 gb patch.

Man.
