Lolz.

Rare has made what? Maybe 3 successful games since joining up with Microsoft? $375 million well spent. Microsoft bought Rare because they wanted them to make the next Goldeneye or Banjo Kazooie for Xbox. Instead they ran several of their of their most beloved franchises into the ground and created a bunch of new IPs that ended up DOA. Rare did not give Microsoft the success they wanted nor did they give the fans the games they wanted. And if you don't believe me you can hear it straight from the horse's mouth.

Viva Pinata
Kameo
Perfect Dark Zero
Kinect Sports 1
Kinect Sports 2
Banjo-Kazooie HD
Banjo-Tooie HD
Killer Instinct

All these were successful

Conker: Live and Reloaded
Banjo Nuts and Bolts

These did ok

Ghoulies
Kinect Sports Rivals

These two were Failures

The thing about their games are, they havent been front loaded.  They sell well over time

Viva Pinata got one sequel and then the franchise ended. Kameo never got a sequel. Perfect Dark Zero was the last game in the series. No idea about the Banjo HD games since those were digital but keep in mind that its been 5 years since they released and Microsoft still hasn't done anything with the franchise. Kinect Sports and Killer Instinct all did well yes. The fact that most of these franchises are currently dead should be proof enough that the games didn't perform to Microsoft's expectations.

Thats a weird way of looking at things.  Would you consider Heavy Rain, Red Dead Redemption, Star Wars the Old Republic, or even the last PGR as failures?  I mean no offense to you but sequels do not determine if a game is successful or not.  However even though the games i mentioned were a success they werent run away hits that went on to sell multi-millions.  And one thing you will notice with Rare especially is that they make a lot of new IP rather than only sticking with one franchise.  Its not surprising that they continue to work on other franchises adn then KS was a run away hit so its also no surprise that they made a sequel to that.

I think you are trying to mix in successful with blockbuster hits that sells millions and millions.  But if that would be the only thing that determines success then the industry would be dead.

No offense, not hyped. MS is the best at hype when it comes to marketing but the worst when it comes to new IP delivery.

Why did Microsoft buy Rare in the first place? Nobody except hardcore Rare gamers would actually buy them on an X1, because the audience is mostly comprised of "mature" gamers.

With the purchase of Rare they got some noteworthy IPs. A notable one at the moment is Killer Instinct, one of the great fighting series ever and the new game is great.

MS bought them in hopes of bringing a casual audience to Xbox and it was actually pretty successful. Several of their games have sold a million or millions. VGChartz isn't tracking them properly by the way.

If anything, Rare helps make MS's 1st party lineup more well rounded.

Lolz.

Bet with Xander XT:

I can beat more games on his 3DS than he can on my PSVita in a month. Loser has to buy the winner a game on his/her handheld Guess who won? http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=193531

You agree with someone who basically downplays the success Rare has had under MS.

It could be argued Rare has been and will continue to be worth the $375 million for MS.

I don't disagree. I don't get hyped until we actually see or play the game. Driveclub and 1886 had a lot of hype... and neither look great. I was hyped about Destiny and Watch Dogs as well, again neither were great.

But I'm more concerned about who has the IPs I enjoy. That made the X1 an easy choice for me and no regrets yet.

Under Microsoft, Rare made less money than Mojang is apparently worth, so I don't think that they're succesful under Microsoft.

Hah! Talk about unrealistic expectations.

Many successful studios don't earn Mojang money.

I hope it turns out good. More games for me to play really. Hopefully they'll show it off soon. I'm more hyped for what Platinum Games has planned for MS. Scalebound will be sick. I hope its like a mix of Bayonetta and dyno crisis.

If we ignore Anarchary Regins, Platinum has a good track record.

Platinum is certainly cabable of making solid games so Scalebound should be good.
