Forums - Gaming - My biggest fear with The Witcher 3....

Is that I'm going to get bored.

Ever since Skyrim came out, big open-world RPG's have yet to grab me. Skyrim, to me, is the pinnicle of an open world game. Even GTA5 bored me quite quickly.

I've been following the Witcher 3 ever since it was announced. It will be my first witcher game; but I had high hopes that I'd be able to get into easily due to it's setting and open-world gameplay. The game just looked like a blast to experience and I was hoping for it to be my next "Skyrim-like" experience so to say.

But after watching all these 30/45 min gameplay videos that come out, it just looks, well, like a drag to play. It doesn't look as exciting as I thought it would be. That feeling that you have when you are just oober hyped to play a game; just isn't there.

Am I overreacting? I realize that might be the case since these gameplay videos are just a very small sample of the game. Or are these feelings justified?? Not really sure.

I have extreamly high hopes for Witcher 3. I really hope it doesn't let me down.

Same for me.
Bought Skyrim day one and played it for like 10 hours in total over the years.
I just can't get into it. Tried it several times, but got always bored after a few minutes.
Witcher 3 looks good, but it isn't on my wishlist for now.

If you're interested in Nintendo content and understand german, maybe you want to take a look at my youtube channel! :)

I dont know why skyrim is so praised. Gameplay is non - existent. For me it felt like a modding tool sold as a game.

After the bad news I am hearing about witcher 3 I will wait till review. I am scared. But I am also relieved because I will be getting bloodborne.

Just wait patiently for TES VI

This game is definitely not a day one purchase for me, so I can take my time to evaluate it and decide several months down the road.
It is on my summer discount waiting list..

Sorry, Skyrim is not pinnacle of open world games, not even open world RPGs. Not even in TES series.

Maybe you just don't like the setting, and that can be a deal-breaker for many.

I loved Skyrim, just felt that there was always something to do and somewhere to go. Its hard to describe why but Beth Soft games just have a level of unmatched immersion in my opinion.

Although I enjoyed Witcher 2 which I felt had a deeper plot and characters and was in general more intelligent, I still would not rate the my overall experience with the game to be better the Skyrim. I guess in open world games quantity>quality. And this does not mean Skyrim's content was shabby, it actually was pretty good.

I guess Witcher 3 and Skyrim are different kinds of games offering different kinds of experiences...

Doesn't sound like you're interested in open-world games. Just Elder Scrolls games.

Disclaimer: I despise practically every Bethesda game. Why am I stuck in first person? Why are these controls so obtuse? Why is the art style bland? Why does that NPC whom I was blackmailing two seconds ago suddenly try to blackmail me if I talk to him again? It's like every design choice they make in a game is designed to piss me off and ruin my immersion.

My general impression of Elder Scrolls is that they made a fantastic lore, but they hired a sociopathic simulationist to design the gameplay and write the script. The result is a game which can't regard either the NPCs or the player as actual human characters. [/rant]

My opinion is that Open World games and Fast Travel options do not mix well. If you have a good fast-travel mechanic you will make your maps colossal, which in turn discourages exploration the old fashioned way because it takes to long.

* You're not stuck in 1st person, you can switch to 3rd person.

** Art style is matter of taste...anyway, have you played Morrowind?

*** I mostly agree. I would even go further and say that map on the main screen doesn't go well either and having to actually pay attention to your surroundings and landscape markers is way more satisfying (shout out to Pirhana Bytes with Gothic and Risen series).
