Why is Ubisoft pressing so much on this whole 30FPS vs 60FPS debate?

They don't want to feel bad when they don't make 60.

I'm pretty sure they aren't making things better by commenting on the FPS like this.

I agree completely. 60fps isn't worth what it costs in terms of machine resources. Every game I've played at 30fps is perfectly enjoyable and I've never, ever thought, "I wish this were 60fps." It wouldn't bother me one bit if rock solid 30fps became the industry standard.

so u never played a fast fps or racing game?

Oh, yeah, the only games I've ever played on the six home consoles and three gaming PCs I've owned have been 30fps.  Crazy, huh?

LOL idk what industry this dev is looking at!   I have never in my life seen so many 60 FPS gams, and PC is now getting 144 FPS monitors.   Someone get this dead weight out of here!

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]

stable 30fps + visuals > 60fps - visuals

depends on the game. for a racer, or anything quick twitch I would take a slight degrade in graphics for 60fps. Just about every other genre I would agree with what you said.

I CAN deal with 30fps in Racers but 60fps is defintily preferred. 60fps is a requirement for online fps shooters. Campaign being 60fps isn't 100% required. and Fighting games have to be 60 fps. Stable 30fps isn't really bothersome. Rock solid 30fps > fluxuating 30-60 fps. I usually get fluxuating 50-60fps on my PC which doesn't bother me but if it is fluxuating between 30-60 then I will lock it to 30 and after about 10 minutes or so there is no negative feelings.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

its not about the platform, its about the genre.  some genres NEED! 60 fps, others are fine or even better with lower frame rate.

would u play f-zero gx with 30 fps? or a fast shooter?

i atm mostly play EU4, it doesnt need 60 fps at all. but when i wanna play quake i need 60 fps minimum( better is 120, yes i have the right monitor to do so, a120hz not a 60 hz)

For the types of games Ubisoft makes, 60fps is very important. Those extra frames are crucial for very quick and reflexive activities.

People can say what they want, I prefer 720p 60fps to 1080p 30fps.

I can live with a blurrier image (720p isn't even that bad)
But the difference between 30fps and 60fps is huge. 60fps is far smoother, and actually impacts gameplay.

I <3 Classic Platformers!

Multi-console Owner FTW

Yeah, why not 24FPS then? How dumb do the Ubisoft people seem nowadays?

"and it doesn’t look like the real thing" - Uhm, YES, YES IT DOES! The only reason The Hobbit felt "weird" was because you are used to 24FPS in movies.

Man, say you made the compromize and targeted 30 because the consoles could not handle any better... don't insult people's intelligence

Also, taking Rachet and Clank as an example is pretty bad, this series was destroyed in great part because of the frame rate drop, it's no longer responsive and fun to play!

So, unless you start making heavy rain or some card games 60fps is the ideal, 30 just works and as they also said in the interview, it's much harder to hit 60... so if they don't want to or can't make it work, just say it, don't act as if 30fps was some kind of gold standard, this is a workable compromise, that's it... like 900p, it's not optimal, but it works and your game can still look good (however it will not win image quality prizes when looked at on 1080p screens... it's not native after all).

Not really. The faster the FPS. The more obious it feels like a studio set. We've all watched 60FPS broadcasts before. News, soap operas, emmy's, parades, that live broadcast of ER, sports games, Doctor Who's deleted footage, the spam pop ups on TV shows, are all that.
