Older generation still hasn't fully caught on. My aunt once texted me and said "Grandma is in the hospital, LOL"

Oh wow, that makes it sound really quite bad.

It turned out to be a minor injury so we had a good laugh about it but at the time it seemed very inappropriate haha

That's pretty much my point. If you think something means something then that's one thing, but you have to consider what other people view it as which could be offensive or inappropriate. Same applies for the "gay " thing, it doesn't mean "Happy" to most people now and is seen as a derogatory term for something, so people should be careful using it.

Or to be safe don't use it at all

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Unfortunately nobody uses the word for that meaning anymore. There are not very many other ways for somebody to use the word in a gaming forum. What other context could there be for it to be used in a non-derogatory way?

I'm a gay/happy gamer. Muhahahaha. People are more or less conditioned not to use the word for it's true meaning and to only think of that word in regards to it's slang meaning. If I go around saying that "You are gay." or "You seem gay to me" then I would be in trouble even if I meant "You seem happy to me." It's very easy to misunderstand.

Except that isn't just a slang meaning. That is its true meaning now, it has replaced the original meaning.

It's a part of the accepted definition of the word. It's not the only definition of the word. I still consider it slang. The whole world used to think the world was flat. I'm inclined to disagree with popular belief on some things.

Wow, I missed a lot!

Nobody in 2015 uses the word gay to mean happy.

You don't hear anyone say "I'm feeling gay" when they mean "I'm feeling happy".

At this point, I don't see why you're keeping this up, other than to argue for arguing sake.

Ah, I do love to debate or argue. Sometimes, I play the devil's advocate especially if I think the topic will encourage people to debate with me. I'm sure that in some english speaking country or somewhere in the states, it's perfectly normal to call someone that is happy, "gay" in that community.

It's perfectly normal for people to call others nigger or negro in some communities as well. So should we allow those words as well, despite the majority seeing them as negative and derogatory?

More like minorities find those words derogatory and everyone else is conditioned to use them or to fear whatever public consequences of using them. :D That's another word that is silly. It's the latin word for black and it's used excessively by the minority that finds it is offensive or derogatory. Anyway, I like playing the devil's advocate but these words are bordering on "too sensitive" to play around with. To each their own.

Same problem happened with "LOL" going from "Lots of Love" to "Laugh out loud". Just because a word meant something before doesn't mean it's appropriate to use it now in certain contexts because of what most people use it for now.

I thought it meant league of legends

Hey, why was he warned for this?

Hardly an obvious troll, nor was it even offensive... I can't really see how it justifies a warning...

"Trolling (The thread was geared toward Phantom Dust, and the OP's frustration that Microsoft was giving their "older" IPs to inexperienced developers. Sunset Overdrive is not an older IP, nor is it from an inexperienced developer (Insomniac), so mentioning it here comes off as little more than a hit & run troll post. Please be more cautious of this in the future and be sure to review the forum rules for further clarification.)"

With the overwhelming majority of people thinking that Phantom Dust looked awful in that thread, and the game itself being in Alpha or whatever?

Yeah, I can see why the post was moderated.
