So the 3DS version alone is selling faster than Brawl in Japan. |
Yes, which would make sense, considering Japan's handheld-oriented culture.

Yeap, i got a comparison here if your interested... http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=191063&page=1
Also depending on what you look at 1.5mil is a lock with 16 days. We know 56k Sold digitally within the first 2 days stated by nintendo.
MC currently has it at 1.376mil which means sales are least 1.432mil and Fam has it at 1.432mil (lol) making sales at least 1.488mil
I believe digital is very high solely on the fact that there were major stock problems (and there currently still are)

To be fair, the 3DS currently has a larger installbase in Japan than the Wii got ltd.

Its not that big of a deal, Many games on wii outsold ds counterpart or got close to it in sales despite the userbase being 12mil vs 33mil

But Brawl was close to SSB 3DS, and Brawl launched when the Wii's JP installbase was only 5,2 million, so it's more than 3 to 1 in the 3DS's favor, and it didn't outsell it by a huge margin. I know it's doing great, but really, look at the other factors, especcially when comparing it to other games. A 3 to 1 installbase advantage is really significant.
You can come up with reasons to not be impressed with Smash's sales, or you can recognize that Brawl is one of the top 50 best selling games of all time in Japan, and that as the first installment of the series on a handheld, we shouldn't take a similar success for granted. If install base was all that mattered, NSMB2 would be pushing 5 million sales in Japan.

How is selling less than 30K opening weak "pretty good'' for any game? Both did horribly..

I assume this is aimed at me. I'm in fact impressed by Smash's sales, I'm just not as impressed as some others here are. I'm just trying to explain that the huge userbase difference shouldn't be ignored, especially when comparing to other entries in a series, because it gives a really skewed view. It's doing great, but some seem to get carried away. Heck, one user said that SSB3DS could reach 20 million, which quite frankly, is ridiculous.
Vita gets a nice little boost to end what was otherwise an underwhelming September for the handheld. *sighs* I really want Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki 1 & 2 localized...
