To be fair, the 3DS currently has a larger installbase in Japan than the Wii got ltd.

Its not that big of a deal, Many games on wii outsold ds counterpart or got close to it in sales despite the userbase being 12mil vs 33mil

But Brawl was close to SSB 3DS, and Brawl launched when the Wii's JP installbase was only 5,2 million, so it's more than 3 to 1 in the 3DS's favor, and it didn't outsell it by a huge margin. I know it's doing great, but really, look at the other factors, especcially when comparing it to other games. A 3 to 1 installbase advantage is really significant.
