Once again, an easy conclusion when you ignore what other developers are accomplishing on the weaker system.

All devs aren't using the same engine or making the same game though.  I don't see how what others are doing is relevant.

Right, but we expect developers to better optimize the engines they're working with.

In some cases we've seen MS helping studios to better optimize their games for X1 hardware.

No. People like you expect the XBO versions to run as well as the PS4 versions, despite the console being definitely weaker. And you base your expectations on the few games that do manage to come close to achieve parity with the PS4 versions. Failing to acknoledge the different technical demands of each games.

If its true that's the biggest difference in a multiplat we have seen so far I think.

Tomb Raider was pretty close if I remember correctly.

No, the resolution disparity wasn't as significant.

It was 1080p during gameplay, 900p during cutscens and generally locked at 30 fps. PS4 version was 1080p and achieved 60 fps with dips into 40s during action.

So 720p/30fps is considerably worse.

That's incredibly close.  Oh and 1080p cutscenes lol?!  Big accomplishment there!

Ah, i see you completely avoided what the majority of my post was about ^^ As i said, until a moment ago you (and everyone you were talking to, including myself) were speaking in terms of performance/power. If the PS4 shows (in measurable real world terms) an average performance advantage of 40% to 50% in resolution, it can likewise apply that advantage to more noticeable factors.

All you're doing is concentrating on a singular point. I agree that resolution is, in linear terms, a less effective use of that power that something like a better lighting engine, but it's irrelevant. The gap between the PS4 and X1 doesn't grow or shrink based on how you believe people perceive something specific. I've never seen much merit it ultra HQ textures; doesn't stop it being an example of something incredible difficult to run.

But anyway, i think it's best we leave this discussion be :) The only thing duller than people who use connective assumptions are those that flip flop in a discussion. It's downright tiring.

Yes, I do expect something close to parity given other developers are achieving it. Even if its a lower resolution.

You fail to acknowledge developers are learning to work with the X1 hardware. Knowing MS has helped studios better optimize their games for the hardware.

Still not as significant as 720p/30fps. Simple as that.

Also, Tomb Raider Definitive was using the old X1 code. While this game should be taking advantage of the performance improvments.

And you fail to acknowledge developers are also learning to work with the PS4. It works both sides. Devs will get better at developing for the PS4 just the same. The improvement won't be made just on a the XBO.  You seem to think that people have already peaked on the PS4, while the XBO is the only console that has room to grow...

Before I bother to write out why you're wrong, can I ask you if my work would be worth it?

Sure it would be worth it

So; apart from what was previously posted regarding the resolution of the eye, you should remember that the tests you are referring to are all about viewing a very heavily antialiased image (such as a movie) and that this doesn't really relate to viewing a rendered image at all.

Second, you need to understand that this has to do with the rhetoric behind Apples retina display - they're about seeing pixels, not image quality.

Third, but not least: a math task: Calculate the resolution of a 1080p image and that of a 720p image. Divide the former by the latter. What do you get, and why is this a problem? As a helping tool, you can calculate the resolution of a UHDTV-image and divide by that of the 1080p one. Why does this not pose a problem?

Best I could do at 00:30, sorry.

I just don't get it.  Anyone with even an iota of hardware understanding can planely see that the PS4 is flat out substantially more powerful.  Double the bandwidth and 50% more GPU processing power.  THAT IS WHAT MATTERS.  If you average those things out you find a 75% lead.  GET OVER IT.

Wow, now its 75%?

Okay buddy, simmer down.

Dude I have been saying the PS4 is double the power since launch.  Look it up.
