Forums - Gaming Discussion - Does Shadow of Mordor Run at 720p/30fps on Xbox One?

Where did you get the chance to?

I usually visit a gaming store before work and the owner (that became my friend after spending loads of money there) play his Xbone on the store while there is nothing to do (the moviment in the store is really low but he had loyalty customers). So he was playing the digital version of the game... so he showed to me (that makes my boss call me at 10:30am asking why I didn't reach the work yet... I was 30 minutes late due this pitstop).

It is clear not 1080p but I'm not sure about 720p neither... maybe close to 900p... the lack of AA (I guess there is none) make it looks worst than a 900p game (remember I'm a bit sensitive with aliasing... the same happened last gen too... bad AA on consoles)... so people can be guessed it was 720p.

The PS4 version I didn't see but a friend told me it runs like inFAMOUS and it is not 60fps... to be fair this friend is a bit biased to the green side but I believe him.

I was planning to buy it but Destiny made I delay all my purchaces (Metro Redux, TLOUR, Diablo 3 and now Shodown of Mordor)... I won't buy game that I won't play

Edit - Take that with a bit of salt because I'm just guessing based in what I see... I didn't pixel count or anything like.

Edit 2 - Good news to Brazilians... the game costs R$122 (~$50) in the PSN... not a bad price.

So your 'proof' proves his point?

Ive had a chance to play the both versions today on my lunch and it most definitely is not 60fps constant on the PS4. Its smoother than infamous as the above poster mentioned. Its more akin to the fluctuations in Tomb Raider on the PS4 to be honest. Is 60fps for maybe 80% of the time. Oddly, the frame rate drops are not in areas where more is going on which is quite weird.

The Xbox one version doesn't look as good as the PS4 version. Cant really tell about the resolution. I'd guess though that 900p is a closer estimate. What is for certain however is the framerate is lower. Seems to be locked to 30fps. In fairness, it doesn't look bad because of it. In fact, because it seems to be totally constant, its less jarring.

But it is a cracking game though in the half hour or so I got to play.

Thanks ethomaz! I was looking for videos yesterday for the Xbox version but couldn't find any. Tell the store guy he should upload a video of it!

DF will have a lot of work this week.

900p vaseline is freaking hideous. I'd rather have 1:1 720p on a 720 panel. And native 1080 looks far better than both. Ps4 is not immune either, bf4 looks like hammered shit on ps4 vs pc.

All that popcorn for nothing then. I never trully believed xbo version would run at 720p lol, but not 1080 either. Although 900p is a very odd number, really hate this resolution with a passion.

...Let the Sony Domination continue with the PS4...

No his proves mine as in the Real world people are not going to look at 900P and 1080P and think its a 40-50% Dif in res when most people cant even tell between 720P and 1080P at most they would think it might be 15-20% better.

So you're saying "My personal opinion>facts"? Ok.

Maybe I'd avoid putting a percentage value to my opinions in the future though, if I were you.

The display resolution tells part of the story. To that, you have to take into account that most other features are rendered at lower specs. Things light shadows also take quite some performance hit when you make them higher res. Same as ambiant occlusion, and other visual features.

The XBO is certainly at a disadvantage. There's no amount of DX12, ESRAM or other magical secret sauce that's going to change that.

So 900p 30fps locked vs 1080p 40-60fps variation from general consesus.
Looking forward to the digital foundry faceoff.
This will be a game I'll wait and get when I get my PS4.

It's just that simple.
