Wait, you're telling me that they made a profit on WiiWare?!

So, they passed the sales threshold and actually got money from Ninty every single time?

Wow. Shin'en has earned my respect.

Wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo treats them better than general third-party devs that aren't on contract. They have been on good terms for a long time and happily let Shin'en play around with dev tools to their liking.

They take no risks, they just churn out cheap, nondescript shovelware which Nintendo lightly promotes making a slim profit.

Regardless, making proft EVERY time is impressive now matter how they are doing it.

They are making games exclusively for Wii U, which seems to be a much larger risk than most multi-million dollar publishers are willing to take.

Agreed. For multi-million dollar publishers put little to no effort on NIntendo platforms while an independent developer is able to churn out profits even from Wiiware of all places.

And churn out profits while doing better graphics than the majority of the multi-million dollar publishers.

If you produce your games for 2 dollars, you can make a hefty 1 dollar profit. If Nintendo gives you 3 dollars to put it on Wii U.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Are you suggesting that zero people buy Shin'en's games, and that Nintendo pays them $1.50 on the dollar to develop all of their games?

That would make Shin'en employees of Nintendo, and it would mean all of their games are published by Nintendo. We would know if either of those things were the case.

So, actually, Nintendo pays them nothing to make games for the Wii U, and more than enough people buy their games for them to make back their development costs, and Nintendo also profits from this relationship by collecting royalties. This is a pretty normal, healthy publisher-platform holder relationship.

TL;DR version: If you produce your game for $330,000, you can make a hefty $1,000,000 profit. If you sell over 100,000 copies of your game to Nintendo gamers at $15 apiece.

Actually I meant it literally. But nevermind.

C'mon man, have a sense of humor.

They deserve it, they have great games.
