Forums - Gaming - Polygon: Destiny's troubled launch was the best-case scenario for Halo 5

Destiny had a troubled launch?

Yes, to say the least. Sub-80 on Meta is probably a catastrophy in the eyes of Activision because they know it will affect future sales of the franchise. Even if a score around 75 should be considered good, when it comes to Bungie, people expected ALOT more.

Its obvious the troubled launch is talking about all the negative feedback (not sales) Destiny has got which will hurt its legs in the long run. People had hyped this game up so much that it was expected to be a masterpiece. I liked the game personally but when it comes to reviews it is Bungie's lowest scoring game even below Halo ODST and well below people's expectations for what the game was going to be.

Destiny week 1 - 4.5m on 4 Platforms
Halo 4 Week 1 - 3.7m on 1 platform

What it does is show that yes SciFi shooters are still very popular and with Destiny being well below expectations, being that some people even wanted to call it a replacement for halo, yeah i would consider that a good thing for halo because it wasnt the same quality of halo. This is shown in story, multiplayer, and content.

Even then i do like Destiny, in fact id mark it as one of my favorite games this gen and have put well over 50 hours in it and still play it a lot. But it isnt hard to see what is being said.

I don't think Activision gives a shit about meta scores. CoD Ghosts reviewed in the 70's and that still sold. At the end of the day, Destiny sold great and some "journalists" can't handle it. All this article did was solidfy that no matter how good or bad Halo 5 is, Polygon will give it a high score regardless...

Ethomaz is basicaly using ever argument in defence of Destiny that some people used to defend Titanfall, and he refused every time.

If you have fun with a game, other are not obliged to.

This title makes no sense. It sold almost 4.5 Million copies worldwide, the most of any new franchise, but yet it still had a troubled release. It also helped boost sales of 8TH AND 7TH generation consoles....

You think Bungie and Activision are worried about reviews? As if they notice with the huge money bath they are taking right now...

Well I think they would be a little worried. Average reviews will hurt the legs of the game and could affect sales of a sequel.

I think you used the wrong username dude.

Show me where I said Titanfall was average lol... I want a ban beat in this case to teach you to stop bullshiting.

Well there's no point in denying the fact that COD is dying slowly. Activision doesn't want to kill COD but they do want the most popular FPS franchise.

CoD: Ghosts sold between 22-24M copies... If that is dying then, well, just about everything else in the industry must be considered as dead.

I was referring to the much lower pre order numbers for COD AW.

I don't put any faith in VGC pre-order numbers. They are almost always wrong.

I will wait for real world results before I make any judgment on the franchise dying. Should only be a couple more months.
