As far as the article goes, I knew it was just an Amazon promotion and not Sony but the writer of the article obviously doesn't ... I thought it would make for more conversation that way :)

I expect anyone who said that was referring to Sony's own baseline RRP. Retailers like Amazon will offer promotions regardless to how successful a product is; they want as big a piece of the pie as they can get. Offering a product cheaper than your competition is an easy method of achieving that.

It's still pretty silly to assume Sony won't offer a permanent price cut for years though. Especially since Sony have already stated that they plan to "rigorously pursue" PS4 sales to expand their network business. Price cuts and promotions will obviously be a part of that strategy. Raw sales wise, cheaper is always better.

Only problem is...Sony didnt, they dont feel the  need to cut the price, retailers do that for them, while MS did an official price cut because they needed it
