Forums - Microsoft - Xbox has around 17m Gold subscribers

If that's true, then either MS was lying a year or so ago when they stated Gold members were around half of all Xbox owners (they must have meant 50% Live members, but I don't think that's how they put it) or there was a massive drop off of Gold subs.

Actually, even if they only meant Live members, there still seems to have been quite a drop in subs. Around 7 million if the links in this thread are correct. Of course, with everyone jumping to the PS4, this was bound to happen. It'll interesting to see how Plus grows this gen.

Yeah this was up over 30 million a few years ago..

Yah... Except it was 30 million "accounts"...
And not gold. But nice try, I totaly understand what you are triyng to do here :)

Nice try? at what, posting in a thread?   Give up the victim act please, it's just pathetic at this point.   And what am i trying to do here?  Please let everyone in on your wise ways..

And no it wasn't 30 million accounts, it actually was 40 million accounts in January 2012 that Balmer disclosed.

http://www.tgdaily.com/games-and-entertainment-brief/60687-xbox-live-users-topple-40-million

Prior to that in 2010 they had a 50% attach rate that put them to 12.5 M gold users

http://techcrunch.com/2010/12/02/microsoft-only-50-percent-of-xbox-live-users-pay-for-gold-subscription/

So yes maybe I am off on the 30M gold users over all. However, since 2010 they have sold over 35 million X360's and 5M X1's and you think they only gained 4.5M more gold users?  It's more then likely that MS has gained a lot more Gold users since 2010 and lost a % of them after the X1 launch.

Well if you use logic and common sense you can argue anything looks bad...  (It's a joke)

That means a solid billion a year then just in Xbox Live Gold revenue for them. So in other words MS could be selling the X1 for free with that much Live revenue coming in and still probably be OK. They really should drop the price. Imagine if they made it like $250 with an additional mandatory one year Gold subscription. Would probably fly off shelves.

Xbox Live has to be what makes Xbox financially worthwhile.

17 million is massive. The X1 appeals to core gamers so that subscription number should remain high in the coming years.

no it does not, sales show that pretty blatantly.

The subs will drop like a rock due to low sales.

You obviously don't what a core gamer is. The software sales show the X1 audience is primarily core gamers.

Go do a little research if you don't understand.

Indeed this is true. Many are unaware that the Xbox platforms also have a very healthy attach rate.

The subs will not drop like a rock due to low sales but there still should be less gold subscribers on the X1 at its peak compared to the 360 since you only need one gold account per console.
