If you've been around for some years in gaming, 2014 was the most boring year ever. I'm not kidding. What did we get? Some shooters, some more shooters and a few remakes from games we have already played. There is no innovation, not even in the slightest way. For me, innovation is not only some new element in a game or fancy graphics. Innovation makes a truly unique game that creates a whole new genre. Like GTA back in the days or Dune 2 or Monkey Island or Tomb Raider or Mirror's Edge... The list just goes on and on.
When people can be really creative, they can do things never done before. Like Minecraft. But more often than not, today it's just about making as much moneyz as possible. The publishers don't even see that they won't be getting anywhere with that. They're just seeing "Oh, dem Call of Dutys sellz good, we so need to make a copycat version of dat! And don't forget to sell as many DLCs as possible, lulz"
The thing is, no shooter will ever sell nearly as good as Call of Duty. It's a lost cause, publishers could be making way more money if they come up with something new. Something fresh. Something without alternatives, so people can only buy THAT GAME for the experience. Sure, it's also involved with risks. But only with risks you will be able to make a breakthrough in this business.
My PS4 is collecting dust since two months and I doubt that will change anytime soon. I'm now playing on my iPhone and I'm discovering more and more truly unique games. It blows my mind, all the things I didn't play because I was like "games on phones suck!" for all these years... Sure, the controls suck, but who cares, at least you get fresh and new games almost daily. It almost feels like with the NES back in the days...
Maybe Bloodborne will get me back to the PS4. Mayber some other game. But right now, that piece of garbage can kiss my ass with all those effin PS3 ports and nothing else. And the ports don't even look that much better! I mean... like, seriously, what is dat shit?!
