Didn't stop COD from getting high scores, great sales, and millions of players why would it stop Destiny.

because - and I can't believe I'm about to type this - at least CoD had a fun campaign.  Sure, it was stupid american patriotic nonsense that was just plain aggressively dumb, but it had action, it had action set pieces, it had actual character and story.

Destiny is a bland, generic, absolutely-nothing-happens game wherein you repeat the same levels ad nauseum to do slightly different tasks while fighting the same enemies over and over agian.  Even the world was really big but there wasn't a lot going on, the story was barely there, and it's really only good at all if you have friends to play it with...which I do, but I don't care for online gaming that much.

This game is only fun if you like repetitive, grindy tasks playing co op with friends.

And Borderlands did it better, had more content, and actually had character and heart.

Best review I have read. Addressed the issues, but also showed the inverse side of those issues and did not pan it because of it.

Also, this reviewer gets it, one of few who did not try to review it as an MMO.

Unlike say gamespots review which was clear written at most when the review hit level 20, this guy put 60 hours and really knows what is good and not so good about destiny.

If I was asked to write a review about Destiny I would plagurize this. GG Kotuku.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Oh jesus if you think COD had a fun campaign then we are clearly never going to agree on anything when it comes to games. How anyone can say COD has a fun campaign and then turn around and chastise Destiny which has set pieces that are 10X harder and require 10X more skill I'll never know. To each his own I guess.

The only thing COD does better is competitive multiplayer. The PVP in Destiny is ridiculous sometimes but it's still fun.

This review really nails the good and bad.

There are really two things that simply are inexcusable: No voicechat for fireteams or PvP teams by default (also no voicechat based on proximity in general) Or options to toggle these and the loot system.

They really need to fix the rewards for heroic story missions/strikes. I don't see why we shouldn't get a guaranteed blue/purple for doing heroic story missions or strikes or at least guaranteed high level currency or weapon parts. At least a guaranteed engram which as pointed out in the review is still a slot machine.

Socially, its just unacceptable that there's no default voice chat, nothing else to say about it. a social hybrid mmo with no voice chat is mind boggling.

Another minor gripe is how difficult it is to invite/join random people in the same area. It is easy enough to join friends on your list but even inviting them means you have to go out to XMB to join if invited.

These things simply must be fixed if they expect this game to last after the holidays with how many games will be coming down the pipe.

Probably the greatest and most accurate review of a game I've ever had the privilege of reading.
