Forums - Gaming Discussion - I dont see point in new gen ter

The Games are just the same with better graphics. There's no game yet we can " my god, it just couldn't be done at PS3/x360". Is like consoles now think with pc logic, ps4/xone being the "high-end rig" and PS3/x360 the "low end". The new gen play the old gen games with higher specs, that's all . And it's taking a way long time to new gen only games to be released, it's almost an year after release of new gen and almost every game is released in both gens platforms. When ps2 was released it was fast for devs started pushing games only for it, PS3 too.

I could never have imagined TLOU or Heavy Rain on PS2. But later into PS3 gen, they came. The first year of games I never really thought that big an improvement from PS3 over PS2.

However I do agree that the leap in quality from last gen to this one is less than previous ones. But that has to do with canniness being a factor.

Can you picture Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3 on last gen? No? Exactly.

And it hasn't even been a year yet. How about we wait a little before judging?

The PS2 was getting games years after the PS3 was released.

As far as games being "the same with better graphics," no.  Look up what RAM means and you'll see the difference.

Here, I'll help you out:

When Sony stepped out in New York with the surprise revelation that PlayStation 4 had a whopping 8GB of very fast GDDR5, there were few people more pleased than Dishonored's lead level designer Christophe Carrier.

"We need memory, you know?" he shrugged, smiling knowingly at colleague Dinga Bakaba after winning Best Game at the BAFTA Game Awards on Tuesday night.

"As a level designer we are struggling against memory every day. We cut things, we remove things, we strip things, we split the levels, we remove NPCs from levels because there's not enough memory.

"So knowing that memory is something that is going to be improved in the next generation of consoles: to us, it's a joy. It's something that we were waiting for.

"We were PC gamers at the beginning. We love PC games, and we had to make games on consoles. But the main problem was memory. The processors are good, but the memory, for our games, is the most important. So it's great."  --  http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-08-dishonoreds-lead-level-designer-labels-ps4s-8gb-ram-a-joy

I could argue that RE4 looks better than TLOU in every aspect except the technical one

Yeah add to that list FFXV... that game not only does it looks beautiful but its also very fast paced, defenetly wouldnt have been possible on last gen, HECK there was an old trailer that showed gameplay for FFXV (in that time FFXIII VS) for the PS3 (when it was exclusive) and it didnt look half as good as it does now in both gameplay and graphics, also add to that list Bloodborne on a graphical level, it would never look that good on last gen, and it would not run nearly as well as on the PS4 in both resolution and FPS.

IKR? There are so many games that are obviously only possible on the new gen.

In most cases, yeah.

We had the old consoles for many years. God forbid we move to new machines that can pump out vastly superior visuals.

Yeah. They just wouldn't look nearly as good.

yeah, feels like some people just want to justify their decision of not purchasing a new next gen console.

for instance look at this:

Final Fantasy Versus VIII on the PS3 (Exclusive)

and now look at this

Final Fantasy XV (the same game now named FF XV and multiplatform)

Not only does it looks WAY BETTER now in terms of graphics (particles, ambient occlusion, lighting etc) but the gameplay has also improved, its faster and much more fluid now, you can teleport and climb almost everywhere and just look no further than 2:44 (on the trailer above) when noctis (the protagonist) is interacting in REAL TIME (not a quick time event but in real time) with the enemy, his clashing swords with the enemy and then his friends (or companions) help him out by not only interacting with him in real time but also attacking and interacting with the enemy (stabbing him and throwing him down), this types of interactions are also present on the new trailer released yesterday and everything is real time... that was NEVER present on the game when it was on the PS3.

Next Gen is already showing its guns and like with EVERY GEN it will only get better and better with the years.
