Notice there's nothing in that post about the quality of the story, which is where they differ greatly. Reviews already state that the gameplay is fantastic but the campaign is boring and unfulfilling.

If Halo 5 gets great scores for being Halo its because the reviewers felt it deserved that score for being a solid game, singleplayer and multiplayer. How would it fall on the "fans" whether or not a game scores well? Destiny didn't live up to the hype, simple as that.

or because it's called Halo and will get recognition because it fits your purposes.  Now Destiny doesn't have a complete story it's true.  That's mainly because they have TEN years to finish the story so they're not going to spell it all out upfront.  If it plays mostly the same and has a few new interesting mechanics that work it should basically the same scores.  People just expected something completely different than what Bungie was selling for some reason.  Bungie never said it would be anything other than an open world shooter with an evolving world over 10 years.  Sure they used hyperbole in the ads but every company does that it's called advertising.

....really?

is gameplay not the most important thing?

Its an important factor but it is not what makes a FULL game. The fact that you said that bolded statement shows that you know nothing about how reviews are done. They don't just say "Oh, this plays like Halo, just throw whatever score we gave the last Halo on there."

I could understand if the story was God awful or there was nothing to do but they fill it up with strikes, raids, crucible, hard modes, and other post game content with collecting and such.  You can't judge the story yet because they aren't even a TENTH of the way through it.  It's a good base for what will be a very long story.  Did Halo 1 by itself fully flesh out the universe?  NO!

Halo did not flesh out the universe but it told a great story to introduce that universe. So did Mass Effect, Modern Warfare, The Walking Dead, Lord of the Rings Fellowship of the Ring, The Matrix and plenty of other things that have sequels.

If you're giving the weak story a pass because there will be more games/expansions later to pay for, then you are what's wrong with gaming.

I believe this story is just as well told as Halo 1's considering both were completely expecting expanded stuff and sequels and so they didn't give away the whole story in the first section.

That's your opinion, majority of reviewers disagree.

because they had strange expectations as I said plus next gen reviews for a new IP have been harsh.  Expectations are set too high for some reason for a new game.  Besides since when is metacritic a go-to?  Oh that's right, since it fit your argument

Titanfall and Watch Dogs did pretty good for reviews and they're new IPs. Metacritic is a combination of a multitude of impressions on something. Are you saying its not credible since doesn't fit your argument?

Most people never use it as an end all be all whether it fits their argument or not.   Try again.

Critical success is used plenty of times to compare games. Do you even know what you're arguing anymore? I say again, Titanfall and Watch Dogs did pretty good for reviews and they're new IPs.
