Forums - Gaming - Anyone who's disappointed after purchasing Destiny because of hype only has themselves to blame.

What if you were just hyped to play a great game?

We certainly had no idea after the beta that the areas would all be so similar and repetitive, or thay the story would not get any better. Or thay the end game was such a letdown compared to your typical loot game
Or that loot itself even past Earth was such a disappointment.

I don't agree with the idea that they did not mislead or fudge anything, because they delayed reviews solely so that negative opinions on the game would be read after release date. Its no different than putting out a bogus video or promising the world and not delivering. The end result is the same, people found out too late.

"It was over-hyped," is never an excuse for anything. It's basically the same as saying, "I was naive and got pwned by advertising." The fault rests on no one else but the person who fell for it.

I know I fell for the hype around LA Noire but I certainly blame no one but myself for that.

With Destiny, I think it's even less of an excuse, as we knew pretty much all the facts going in. The hype never even touched me because of that. I thought it looked good--I still think it looks good--but it's never been at the top of my most wanted list, either.

I'm also not buying the anti-hype, as a lot of that seems to come from people who had no real idea of what they were getting into or are mad that it's not the "game of the generation".

Stellar post! I also fell into the hype trap plenty of times over (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 instantly comes to mind), but all responsibility rests on my shoulders.

NO DOUBT in my mind, however, who the biggest pioneers of the anti-Destiny movement are coming from. None.

The reviewers?

The reviewers aren't the only ones moaning. But yes, some of them as well.

So who's the biggest pioneers? PC gamers? Xbox gamers? Sony gamers? Nintendo gamers?

I really shouldn't have to spell this one out for you. :)

Oh ok I get it, it's the sony gamers who pioneered hyping it up as the greatest game of all time that are disappointed. It's cool, no need to spell it out.

I don't recall Sony gamers hyping any new game up like that this year (and they certainly didn't hype up Destiny like that). I can recall another group who did something like that, however.

What about threads saying Destiny has no competition for GOTY

I think this sums it up a bit. But of course just like people were saying about Peter Molineux, you can't buy whatever the guy says. Devs should not be believed at all or it's your own fault for believing them.

So this goes for all devs?

I don't know you tell me... I was being sarcastic btw ;)

Can't say that I saw those. Source(s)?

I think the videogame business needs to be a little more responsible about what they say though. They constantly try hard to mislead consumers, about resolution, about how big the worlds are, about not releasing a game to said console, about exclusivity, about DLC etc... I know some of you prefer to put all the blame on people that believed what was said but frankly I think publishers and devs AND the media should try to be alittle more transparent. That's what I think.
