Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft to announce Mojang (Minecraft) buyout on Monday, for $2.5b

I can't believe they're spending that kind of cash. They could buy ubisoft or ea or something that has a significant portfolio. Minecraft was innovative and fresh but technically crude in many ways.

If they don't care about the screams of copycat how hard would it be for a similar game to steal minecrafts crown?

Actually Lego could release a minecraft clone and anyone who accuses them of copying minecraft would be laughed at.

I assume Minecraft 2.0 is in the works now?

Prediction: Switch 2 will outsell the PS5 by 2030

Me right now:

Whatever, it's your money MS.

Fuck this if it means the content updates aren't free anymore. That or they make it XBox and Lumia only. They do that and I guess I don't play Minecraft. Well, except for on the PS3/4, which might soon get screwed in terms of updates.

Uh,  why can't they just build up shit on their own?

Good for Mojany though. They made big time money here.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Weird. I don't think Minecraft has got potential to make MS another 2 billion dollars or more for a profit, but we'll see.

I feel like MS has really fucked up by doing this.... :/

This is such a weird development to me. Persson has been hostile in the past to corporate giants and Mojang, if memory serves me correctly, has on more than one occasion rejected outside funding and buyout attempts. On the other side, I'm curious what Microsoft plans to do with Minecraft. Does it plan to make Minecraft spin-offs for Xbox or just cash in on the original game's profits and growing media empire?

Are you crazy? This is $2 billion. You would have to be certified crazy not to snap MS's off for that kind of cash! You would be set for life and your kids and theirs etc
