Forums - Microsoft - Xbox 360 price cut in Europe : When ?

Xbox 360 sales have been very low since christmas in Europe. After it's third christmas above 300€ (for the premium), it seems quite understandable. Obviously everyone who has 350€ to put in a Xbox 360 already have bought one. So it's definitely time for a pricecut, and MS will (if they're not totally stupid) cut the price in 2008. But when ?

Well I've just done a quick search and found something interesting.

April 2002 : Xbox price cut to 299€

August 2002 : Xbox price cut to 249€

April 2003 : Xbox price cut to 199€

August 2004 : Xbox price cut to 149€

August 2007 : Xbox 360 price cut to 350€ (Premium)

So it looks like when MS does a price cut, the price is lowered by 50€ and it happens in either april or august...

Xbox 360 Premium at 299€ in April ?

It is not as stupid as saying MGS4 is coming to 360, because no one at microsoft has repeatedly denied a price drop in April.

It also makes sense. They must be making a good profit on each console sold, so they can afford a 50 Euro price drop. GTA4 is the biggest 360 game of the year. It would be very logical to do a price drop in April.

Not sure why you think it's stupid, kingofwale. If the industry is moving in the direction VGC is saying with the PS3 slowly gaining ground on the 360 week-by-week, MS has to respond with something, and a pricecut sounds like the obvious option.

 when you say VGC is saying, you mean VGC forum is saying?  Honestly, I think you are giving too much credit to fanboys.

 I think it's stupid because there's absolutely no base to the price drop rumour. Last time there was a price-drop/new sku, people found out about it MONTHS before the actualy annoucnement. 

If it's true, Microsoft would go public and deny it.

April is right after the fiscal year ends, so MS could wait until then for "the big announcement."

April is the month GTA4 comes out, so a coincidental price drop would help push sales.

The PS3 is outselling the X360 in Europe since the PS3's price drop. It only seems appropriate for the X360 to drop its price -soon- before PS3 momentum takes over.



There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
