One Direction advertised Pokemon X/Y in the UK, and despite loads of people not liking the group at all, I can only imagine it having a positive impact on sales for the game.

That is such a huge non issue, if I were a japanese gamer looking forward to Smash on 3DS, I'd be more pissed at Nintendo releasing it with a bundle of the old 3DS just a couple weeks before the newer, better New 3DS releases that even unlocks certain features (C-stick control) in the game that you can't use on the old 3DS.
