I didn't buy any of them, gaming on PS3/360 still.

Well, they've only been out a year. Let's be patient.

Remember last gen's launch games?

Resistance, Kameo, and Wii Sports.

Did you see my spoiler for the real answer? xD

Also I'm just speaking hardware-wise, I'm sure all three consoles will have some great software.

I want the PlayStation 5 not only to be 100% compatible to all PS4 games, they should all run in flawless in 1080p, 60 fps (and in some cases better antialiasing) on the PS5.

I want the Xbox Two not only to be 100% compatible to all XBO games, they should all run in flawless in 1080p, 60 fps (and in some cases better antialiasing) on the XBT.

If PCs can do such visual upgrades to older games by inserting a faster graphic card (and a faster CPU and/or more RAM in some cases), the 9th generation consoles should be able, too (if they keep the x86 architecture). If they do that, the new consoles can't come soon enough.

Generations are always too long. Why wait for Devs to figure out more ways to squeeze the hardware if we can just give them more of it?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I prefer if it lasts about the same amount of time, 7-10 years. I think developers take years to tap into a console's full potential. For the past few generations systems saw some of their best work towards the very end. PS2 was just showing what it could do in it's final years, Persona 3/4, God of War 1/2, FFXII, Magic Pengel(personal Fav), etc. PS3 we just got The Last of Us and Beyond, these games technologically blew everyone's minds. It also takes longer for dev costs to drop these days, so the longer we spend with the same consoles the more potential money for devs.

From a profitbility point of view, the gen has to be as long as the last one. Its not even a question of if.

Why? The consoles are reportedly not sold at a loss.

I think 6 to 7 years would be fine. But honestly when the devs can't do what they want/make unique experiences because of the limited hardware, that's when a new gen should start.

It can literally take hundreds of millions into the billion plus zone to launch a flagship console, then it takes years to reach profitability due to overhead.  unit by unit is not the same as paying for tens of thousands of employees, licensing, legal, support, marketing, warranty, R&D ongoing, etc. It's an expensive business.  iirc 360 lost so much in 05 to 07 that it never fully covered the early losses, and og xbox was another 3 billion in the hole.  ps3 lost a ton too.

That's true. I never considered that. No wonder MS's shareholders want them to get rid of Xbox.
