It's a combination of factors:

1 - The library is more complete than the XB1's, if it's better or not I guess it could be argued, Ryse is always brought up as a fav in thses discussions... yet meta critics hates it ( for good reason, it's a poor God of War clone)

2 - It is the most powerful gaming console available

3 - Sony has more studios that will eventually spit out amazing games, in a variey of styles, while MSes studios seem to generate only the 'normal' games like halo, gears, etc.

What meta says doesn't matter, what the person playing it thinks does however.

Anyway looking forward to more games on ps4, Bloodborne will be the start of very many great games for PS4.

Its the wrost game thisgen, i could not even finsh it due to it being just so bad.  Its meta is to posative in view of the truth of its quality.

I didn't say it was a good game, I'm just saying that the individual who plays it opinion matters more than what meta's says.

Blind people say its library is unappealing.

Haters say it sells on hype.

Reasonable people understand that you buy a console to play games the next 6-8 years and that the PS4 library will be the best out of the 3 consoles out on the market with great exclusives and the best versions of multiplats.

Nope.. I can see just well!

Not really, mets is quiet a reliable judgment of a games quality.

Now if you are expecting a person to like a genre they hate based on meta then you might have a point.

I wasn't aware of the Metacritic scores (surprised), but I'm inclined to think that's just a very interesting coincidence in this particular instance.

I don't think anyone is buying the PS4 because they're looking at Metacritic and thinking "Which new system has the highest number of games rated above X percentage because that's what I'm going to buy."

Personally, I'm inclined to think the PS4 is selling upon the momentum that started with their strong debut which was aided by a favorable price to performance perception, a "consumer favorable" perception and the most favorable press heading into its release. That's for consumers who were on the fence as to which new system to buy; brand loyalists, who are often early adopters, are easy enough to predict, but do not determine runaway sales when one product outsells the competition significantly.

I can't say it was the library that sold me on pre-ordering the PS4; it was the moment SCE announced the price and Amazon took pre-orders that I placed mine, knowing full well that the same franchises (in particular the SCE exclusives) I enjoyed on the PS3 would be continued on the PS4 in addition to healthy 3rd party support.

If I was buying one today based upon the library, since the only remaining Nintendo IPs I still follow are Metroid and Zelda, I'd still be picking the PS4 on the basis of 3rd party support, superior performance of multi platform titles with added incentive from Infamous (not a system seller for me, but still a franchise among favorites).

But future titles rather than current releases, since we're supposed to be looking at Meta scores, would matter more to me, and since we don't have scores for that which has not been released, I'd have to say that the Meta score average wouldn't make any difference in my decision.

Looking at true exclusives, it's got a pretty sad line up. But I guess Sony was right when they said exclusives aren't important any more.

I'll also like to add is that it is a Sony brand. The brand name alone is enough. Its like NIKE, or Jordan sneakers. it sells on the name cause people know they're buying a good product.

Not as much as you think. If Sony brand meant anything then their TVs and mobile phones be leading the pack.

The main reasons it is selling cause:

1. Microsoft and Nintendo fuckedup hard.

2. THe promise of exclusive games to come. Whether they deliver on this promise remains to be seen. It was a good tactic I'll give them that.

This is waht is called selling on hype. Knowing that the console will have something in the future exicted you enough to buy it before the content is even there.
