I can care less about online play for most games, personally.

well, you but not all the Cod, Battlefield, Fifa and whatever else players who play online almost every single day. That some people don't care about it should be obvious or the numbers would be even higher.

Kind of shocked its seems a bit low to me. My buddy with a PS4 and X360 kept his gold but no PS+ cause most of his friends are still on the 360. I suppose its hard to justify $120(though you can get it much cheaper with deals) on online services. Wouldnt be surprised if theres a fair amount of PS4 owners in that situation.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Oh, i agree with ya. If it weren't for the free games, i wouldn't subscribe. All that i want out of most games is a good single player mode. I get bored with most of the online stuff, especially in games like COD,  where you're doing pretty much the same thing over and over again. If Destiny would give me the option to not play online, i'd do it. Hell even if the Alpha and Beta, i'd mainly explore and kill stuff on my own.

It's not a great achievement for anyone but Sony. The numbers are up because you need to pay for online gaming now, not because it's a "great value". Not that you don't get lots of good games for the price, but many gamers are fine without those games and just want to play their COD against their friends and now they need to pay.

Haha, I know, I was thinking the same thing.  Great value? Isn't it required now to play online?

That means that 50% of PS4's are not on plus.

It makes you think how risky it is to be developing these online components that only half of the userbase even uses.
I am waiting for the time when we get single player and multiplayer sold separatly. For the multiplayer to increase the market penetration it needs to be dedicated and fleshed out.

Riiight...not sure what it has to do with the Wii but I have first-hand experience. Hell, there were multiple casuals lining up for the PS4 when it released.

Umm.. I don't think you know what a "Casual Gamer" is..  A casual gamer would NOT be at LAUNCH of ANY game system.. If they were.. they would NOT be a casual gamer..

According to you? Lol...

You weren't there, you have no idea. Casual gamers were drawn in. I talked to some of them and they were clearly casual, most certainly not all HARDCORE like you claim...

Multiplayer is still available to non-Plusers via F2P games

Sorry. They were NOT casual gamers for the FACT that they were THERE in line the day the console released. That alone makes them not a casual gamer. Casual gamers BY defitintion to NOT get launch consoles and surely don't wait in line to do so.  I don't get why this is confusing. Casual gamers barely know a console is released, and usually don't pick one up a until a few years in when a bunch of their friends have one.

I actually feel that is low. Since you cant actually play online without PS+ it sort of cuts off the notion that ALL games must be online.

Only half of PS4 users are playing online. Therefore you could say things like only half are gamers while the other half are casuals, for example.
