SHOTS FIRED!

if they put large effort to develop a game, they want it to sell max as it can sell.

So, they choose mario as character.

Mario is oversaturated. The glut of games like NSMB2, NSMBU, 3D Land, and 3D World all in a short period damaged his brand power. Further saturation would have continued to weaken Nintendo's strongest property, which in the long term would be disastrous.

Nintendo have more than ever been criticised for sticking to familiar brands, and in particular milking Mario. A new IP helps counter this negative image.

It damaged his brand power. Right. That's why four out of the five top selling Wii U games have his name in the title, two of which you just listed. All that criticism comes from the loud minority. A game no one will ever hear of definitely won't help their image.

Sure, lets package every new idea in the same overused franchise, that will totally show people that we offer variety and fresh content.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Well, you're not necessarily wrong! Sunshine was very lackluster compared to 64!

I think a new IP sometimes is actually a good idea.

Watch Dogs could have been Assassins Creed 5: Magic Smartphone, but Ubisoft would be critized as hell for releasing 2 AC in the same here (yea, i know there are 2 comming anyway, but they are for different plataforms).

In other worlds, a new IP is a great idea, but they need to advertise it. The Squids are fun! Give them a chance.

I'm glad its a new IP not another Mario game.

You know, I hate it when people single out Nintendo for rehashing when pretty much everyone does it.

I think we all hate that.

I`m glad they chose to use new characters for this game. Personally, don`t really think this would fit the Mario Universe - given the mechanics of the game.

Making it a new IP also helps the console itself by making more than a Mario, Zelda machine with some other offerings.
