Forums - Nintendo - Pokken Tournament is a "competitive action" rather than a "competitive fighting game."

Smash is a fighting game, just because its not played as a traditional one doesn't mean it isnt one. Its at Evo meaning its a fighting game, so pls lets not start with SSB=/=Fighter.

Party Brawler is a sub category of a Fighter as Mario kart is a kart racer which is a sub category of a racer.

That said, Pokken fighters can be in the same boat, SSB is one of the most competitive games out there in general. Easy to pick up, very very hard to master. No button mashing, etc.

Edit: And Pokken Fighters  could be completely unique, why do you want it to be a reskin of tekken/etc? Thats another factor of why SSB got so popular, its because it doesn't play like other fighters at all.

Smash is not a fighting game. Even Sakurai doesn't think it is. That's not a bad thing. I love smash. It's not a fighting game. It's a brawler. Similar. Not the same.

Me wanting Pokken to be a standard fighting game doesn't mean I want it to reskin anything. Is Tekken a reskin of Street Fighter? Is Street Fighter a reskin of Dead or Alive? Is Dead or Alive a reskin of Mortal Kombat? Is Mortal Kombat a reskin of Killer Instinct? Didn't think so.

Smash is popular because of the Nintendo characters. If it was a standard fighting game instead of a party brawler, it would be just as popular.

I don't know if I'll get this if it even comes to the Wii U. I never liked Tekken games.

It doesn't play like Tekken. Not from what I can see, anyway.

Still kind of easy. circle is primary attack, X is jump (or strafe if holding a direction), square is projectiles, and triangle followed by one of those previous commands makes the previous commands stronger. That is literally 100% of characters in Naruto.

My point is that those naruto games aren't as deep and complex as something like Street Fighter and Tekken.

True, until you add the directional pad (buffs and debuffs), teleportation, and strategy among fighters. But that's the thing, anyone can pick it up. To master a character is hard. Saying that, Tekken is a master class in fighting games. To master those games is freaking WAY harder than most fighting games.

Hopefully it's one of those easy to pick up hard to master type games, like Smash for example

But Injustice is easy to pick up and hard to master, yet still manages to be a standard fighting game. I don't get how Pokken couldn't do the same.

Whelp, I take back what I said yesterday.

Whats that? We cant judge it just cuz of wat the developer says especially when there is SSB

Because of Nintendo + SSB is why I'm taking it back.

The question isn't whether it could or couldn't, it's just not the game they're trying to make. (And even that's just speculation, who knows really.)

It seems to me that they are just trying to make it sound more approachable.

BTW, that sig is literally one of the best gifs I've ever seen. Lol. Still laughing at it.

if that means this game won't have tekken's stupidly complex move sets than,.. good!

SSB is good because the move set is simple and consistent between all fighters. i'd much rather learn how to make good use of my move set than to learn dozens of 6+ button press combinations required to do anything other than get my ass whooped.
