Nintendo didn't leave the casuals, the casuals left Nintendo when they realized they can pay a couple bucks a pop for their entertainment on their smartphones rather than $250-$300 on a console and $50-$60 a pop for maybe one or two games a year.

Wait..what?

Ever notice how the Wii sharply declined at the same point that tablets and touch-screen smartphones became mainstream?

That's why the casuals left Nintendo.

Take a look at the bold.

Ya know, I just cant imagine Miyamoto saying that as it is.

Take a look at the bold.

Go to the average non-traditional gaming household with a Wii and look at their library... it's the same half a dozen or so games every time:

Wii Sports (obviously)

Mario Party

Mario Kart + plastic steering wheel collecting dust somewhere

Wii Play because it comes with a controller

Wii Fit + balance board collecting dust somewhere

NSMB Wii and / or Mario Galaxy

A music / rhythm game such as Just Dance, Guitar Hero or Rock Band + plastic instruments collecting dust somewhere.

A game with "LEGO" in the title.

And perhaps the odd mini/party game like Carnival Games, Cooking Mama etc.

That's why I said only one to two games a year in my post... it's not that the Wii only had one or two games a year (well, in 2011 and 2012 it did, but I digress!), it's that casuals only buy one or two games a year, and they all buy the same shit that their friends and family do.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

This shift of nintendo's is clearly not by design, it's because the so called casuals didn't flock to the wii u in the first place forcing nintendo to reevaluate their strategy.

He didn't say that when casuals went to the Wii in droves LOL

Who would? Casuals have a lot of money. A LOT! They've since left for iPad and smart phone stuff so we're seeing the return of Gamecube-era Nintendo. I for one welcome that.

I believe he is absolutely right! Casual gamers play today games on their smartfones who are today more powerful than 6 years ago, they don't spend $40-60 Dollars for a game or even $300-400 Dollars for a console to play it on ;) And I hope that they will now concentrate now on creating games like Xenoblade, Bayonetta2 and Zelda :)

It doesn't need much explanation really.

Wii attach rate is under 9 games per console.  Divide that by how many years Wii U has been selling.

That includes the folks who buy 50 or 100 games, so the most casual of players have less than that.

My 8th gen collection

why are people treating this like its a bad thing it sounds like we aren't going to get games like the Wii series such Sports, Fit, Party and of course Music anymore.but instead more games like Splatoon, Xenoblade, Star Fox, Devil's Third, Bayonetta 2, Code Name Steam, Metroid, F-Zero, Wonderful 101, Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin, and Mother/Earthbound games like those and not either casual games like the Wii series so what's the problem with this statement exactly? cause i remember so many people hated Nintendo's E3 2008 and 2012 conferences for their casual gamer focus.

Thank goodness. Now we can get some real games from Nintendo. I hope the WiiU library resembles the GC as opposed to the Wii.
