Nintendo didn't leave the casuals, the casuals left Nintendo when they realized they can pay a couple bucks a pop for their entertainment on their smartphones rather than $250-$300 on a console and $50-$60 a pop for maybe one or two games a year.

Wait..what?

Ever notice how the Wii sharply declined at the same point that tablets and touch-screen smartphones became mainstream?

That's why the casuals left Nintendo.

Take a look at the bold.

Go to the average non-traditional gaming household with a Wii and look at their library... it's the same half a dozen or so games every time:

Wii Sports (obviously)

Mario Party

Mario Kart + plastic steering wheel collecting dust somewhere

Wii Play because it comes with a controller

Wii Fit + balance board collecting dust somewhere

NSMB Wii and / or Mario Galaxy

A music / rhythm game such as Just Dance, Guitar Hero or Rock Band + plastic instruments collecting dust somewhere.

A game with "LEGO" in the title.

And perhaps the odd mini/party game like Carnival Games, Cooking Mama etc.

That's why I said only one to two games a year in my post... it's not that the Wii only had one or two games a year (well, in 2011 and 2012 it did, but I digress!), it's that casuals only buy one or two games a year, and they all buy the same shit that their friends and family do.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.
