Nintendo in new to DLC and they are already doing it right

I like what johnathanalis said. 90% of characters are consistently still Mario characters. It will still be a little weird though. We'll get used to it.

Holy fucking shit. This is the best thing ever!!!

Nintendo should do a Zelda U based Direct in that they show these MK8 DLCs and announce Animal Crossing U.

I think this orange block with questions marks can be because it is a course based on an unannaunced game.

I think you are on to something!

Maybe it could even be that it`s based on a level of a game like Yoshi or Kirby and Nintendo doesn`t want to reveal it yet.
But given both options, i`ll go with yours! :D

Ehhhh would have preferred a more Mario focused DLC that added more of the superstars from the Mario universe like BIRDO!

But If this is legit (Which I think it is, the ad looks super real!!!) I cant really complain especially sense there also adding more tracks!

I think you and Birdo are the only people who like Birdo.

Are you CRAZY shes a fan favorite in the Mario universe!! She's all the rage in the Mushroom Kingdom, she always comes in second just behind Peach and ahead of Rosalina in all the popularity polls.

She is just to FAB-U-LOUS, people cant get enough of her!

Now that the comments have slowed down? How do you think nonMario characters will play a role in future MarioKart games? There's just way too many options.

Well, it works for Smash, so...

I can't see them going back to just Mario characters for future MK games. Not after these floodgates have been opened. Maybe they'll change the name to Mario & Nintendo All-Stars Kart. Also, it's an excellent way to plug their other franchises, seeing how big of an audience MK usually reaches, compared to their lesser IP's.

It works amazing for smash, but smash has always been a crossover and it's not called super smash mario. Like you said, changing the name would work. Does that mean we won't see another MarioKart with just Mario characters though? Will there even be a Mario Kart 9?

I don't think the next MK will have a cast consisting of just Mario characters, no. Not after this. But the main cast will definitely be there, still. Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Peach, Wario, Bowser and the likes - they've been there since forever. Now I could see them dropping a lot of the secondary characters that don't regularly reappear/aren't popular/were only used once, like the Koopalings, Toadette, Metal Mario and the likes. That way they'd have more time/resources to focus on big Nintendo characters from other IP's.

I imagine the focus will still be on Mario characters, mainly. And the Mario Kart name is a bit too valuable and recognized to cast away and replace with a new name. Mario Kart All-Stars seems nice.

It would be the same series, but completely transformed. Kind of like what they did to Dragon Ball each new season. Metal Mario was my main, but I could definitely switch him out with Link or Samus. I wonder if they would have items from different series though.

Oh man... this is amazing (and cheap!). Day one for me. =)

wth is going on? why all the Nintendo news all of a sudden and no direct?

I cant see Nintendo going back to other Mario Kart games without some other nonMario characters after this especially after it apparently being sold out after only a few minutes of it being announced.

irstupid brings up a great point, I wonder if this mean games like Mario Party, golf, tennis etc. will get cross overs too. I dont see why not I see no negatives to adding more characters. It would also get rid ot that "Nintendo is milking the Mario franchise" if they add other nonMario characters, but im sure people will still find things to complain about like "Look at Nintendo whoring out all there franchises now!"
