The main story of many open world games is still pretty linear. I think he means that the new Zelda game won't be like that.

I think we knew this already. It's not trying to be GTA or Skyrim, it's trying to be a much bigger and better version of the original Legend of Zelda on the NES.

Zelda was the first open world game. And any game where you explore a world needs to be open world. The better question is why not?

As for what Aonuma is saying, I take it he means it will be open world, but not sandbox.

Legen Of Zelda was the first open world game with non linear gameplay.

Anyway, the game is either openworld or it isn't.  'Not the same as other games' screams to me 'not really open world'.

And Twilight Princess. The key is just making sure they are more populated.
