have you even played Lair? The controls are pretty darn good once you get the hang of it. If Lair's control suck then Super Mario Galaxy's controls were just plain horrid. And Famitsu gave GTASA, yes GRAND THEFT AUTO SAN ANDREAS, a pretty darn good score (forget what itw as but it was over 30/40). Now quit your trolling or leave these forums. |
Yet... Super Mario Galaxy is one of the best rated games of all time. Which would seem impossible if it's controls are supposed to be worse then Lairs.
I'm going to go ahead and say your wrong on this one.
Also... he wasn't trolling in that comment man. As a mod you should know better.
Also, you should note that Lair got badly reviewed for more then just that.

Right. Evey single Western reviewer was an impatient prick. It has nothing at all to do with the fact that the controls just plain suck, or the fact that Famitsu seems biased against anything resembling a Western-made game. No siree. Glorious Nippon is always right. Not like those American pig-dogs. |
Considering that every review from IGN, Gamestop, Play, etc. said that they picked up the game, and played maybe 5 levels, then quit because the "controls were so terrible" then yes, I'd say I was about right with my assumption.
And I doubt it has to do with them being biased against anything Western, but rather, more so the reputation they have for being one of the strictest reviewers.......and btw, Lair IS a western style game, so your personal bias against Famitsu is moot.
PS. Halo (37/40) scored well, Motorstorm (30/40) scored well, Grand Theft Auto (30/4) scored well, Oblivion (32/40) scored well.....need I go on.
And like I said, once you learn the controls, it becomes a great game...but most people won't give it the time......I guess they're afraid to have a learning curve

QFT this is the problem with game reviews in the US/EU, they care about the money they get from their reviews and not that they properly review a game. |
Hahahahaha
Someone has no clue how Famitsu works. Its the very definition of "fan-service" with high profile or popular titles receiving good score (see every gundam game). They also give big budget titles good scores as well, especially when they put up a good amount of ads. Objective is a word that can never be used in the same breath as Famitsu.
Just out of curiosity, have you ever seen/read Famitsu? Its packed to the brim with ads, and all the reviews and previews are ridiculously slanted to the positive end. The funny thing is everyone in Japan knows that the mag isn't balanced in the least and that its reviews should never be taken seriously, but for some reason Americans think its the holy grail of gaming journalism.

"Why do they call it the xbox 360? Because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away"
Famitsu review games by gameplay and graphics. Ign reviews by non linear gameplay and replay value.
That's why Gta San andreas only got a 30.
@ ssj12: Apparently I'm not allowed to call out absurdly wrong posts now, or else I'm a "troll"?
@ BMaker11: Let's take a look at those scores you posted in comparison to the median on Gamerankings.
HALO: Famitsu 92.5%. Median 95.6%.
MOTORSTORM: Famitsu 75%. Median 82.5%.
GTA SAN ANDREAS: Famitsu 75%. Median 95.1%.
OBLIVION: Famitsu 80%. Median 93.9%.
See a trend here?
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Yeah...looks like Famitsu is generally pretty harsh....so a 37 from them means even more than from someone else :P

Only on western type games... Which would make sense... since it's reveiwers are japanese.

I hope that this game manages to move PS3 hardware above 30k, Japan sales have dropped way to low.
2008 end of year predictions:
PS3: 22M
360: 25M
wii: 40M
