| SvennoJ said: Next to nitro boost those rediculous brakes also screwed up racing. Same with NFS, nowadays you can simply tap the brake and slide/boost your way out of trouble. Reaching top speed used to be difficult and very dangerous, nowadays you chain boost after boost and according to the sound you keep switching up gears forever. |
HAHA true
I also blame open world its just wrong in many ways.. playing track after track kept the adrenaline pumping and you had some sense of accomplishment.

As far as kart racers go. I've only played Chocobo Racing, the Mario Kart games, and Modnation Racers. I like Chocobo Racing the best.
The kart racer that I like the least though is the Mario Kart franchise as you receive items depending on your placing in the race to where you can actually benefit by sandbagging and lagging behind the opponent on purpose in order to keep them getting green shells and banana's and then take the lead closer to the end of the race using a better item you've picked up and saved along the way, not allowing them to regain their position.
Modnation Racers is Sony's kart racer and when it comes to gameplay mechanics it's far superior than Mario Kart will ever be. It just looks really stupid . In Modnation Racers, like Chocobo Racing you see what power ups you're going to pick up and can increase the level by picking up that item multiple times up to a max of three, the most powerful version of that item. Drifting in Modnation Racers adds to a boost gauge which can either use boost or give the player a temporary shield. You can save your boost gauge throughout thte stage and use it when you need it, or you can use it as soon as you get it to gain more of a lead on your opponents. It allows the player to choose whether they think it's worth gaining that extra distance on their opponents or would they rather save it for when an opponent gets behind them to use an item that may cause them to drop in place. Sony needs to create a racing game with the mechanics of Modnation Racers but doesn't look stupid as hell. Maybe Playstation All Stars Racing?

Yep, SEGA had some great racers particularly in the 90's
SEGA Rally was short, but by god was it sweet (handled like a dream)
