Forums - Sales Discussion - Japan Sales Week 33 (August 11 - 17) - Hyrule Warriors first week sales

Not bad for Hyrule Warriors, I would have liked it to do 100k+ but I was expecting anywhere between 50k & 100k

So do these Japanese Hyrule Warriors numbers give any indication of how the game will sell in the US? Or is the Japanese market not typically seen as predictive when it comes to US sales?

No, this really doesn't tell us anything. Zelda is much more popular in the West than in Japan, however the Musou series is much less popular in the West. The general prediction is that it will do much better in the West than in Japan through.

Youkai Watch 2 doing great as usual :)

Completely different situations.  Japanese consumers knew exactly what they were getting with Hyrule Warriors.  Western Nintendo fans, I'm betting most of them will have no idea.  They might buy it because it says Zelda on the box or they might avoid it because it's totally different from other Zelda games.  How Nintendo advertises this could make a big difference.  They highlight that it's a Zelda game, sales could go up.  They highlight that it's a spin-off with different game-play mechanics and sales might drop.  However, if they aren't really honest, it might hurt the brand and the overall reception of the game.

On topic, I think Hyrule Warriors did decent.  The Musou fanbase simply isn't on the Wii U in vast numbers.

The big surprise for me was Frontier G doing that well on the Vita.  Monster Hunter is ridiculous in Japan.

Lets look at other big Wii U exclusives FW Japan. According VGChartz.

Pikmin 3- 96k
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD- 31k
Wii Party U- 76k
Super Mario 3D World- 102k
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze- 38k
Mario Kart 8- 334k

Hyrule Warriors- 64k (based on the 69k and 79k)

See its not that bad. If you take off Mario Kart 8, it looks very good
Btw i was expecting 25k Wii U sales but 18k is good

Found the prediction thread

Looks like people were generally expecting more from Hyrule Warriors, a good number of people were pretty close though.

Hey, I got a pretty good prediction (which is rare because I suck at it). I placed at 79k for first week, if I go by Famitsu numbers it was spot on, if I go by Media Create ones it was too high.

Anybody knows why there is so much difference for that game between both numbers?

SK2 with poor second week too, very concerning now and need to really bounce back with EV.

At this point, it make not fall completely until the shipment sells out. I would be shocked it doesn't get discounted soon.

Already happened a few days after release

At this rate, it won't match Shinobi Versus first day sales before at least 10 weeks lol

- Hyrule Warriors is 40K behind WO3U FW and sold less than half of SW4 FW, but 80K is far from bad. WiiU bump is downright ridiculous though.

- Monster Hunter didn't lift Vita sales at all. This ship has sailed...

- [PSV] Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment # <RPG> (Bandai Namco Games) {2014.04.24} (¥6.664) - 3.893 / 216.578 <80-100%> (+40%) --> OMG this is so good!

So Hyrule Warriors gave a decent boost supported by Obon week, the game itself didn't have a great first week by Zelda or Dynasty Warriors standards.

By combining the two IPs they managed to make a less popular game than each one individually.

Ouch :p

But I think that both franchises are on a decline lately. Or am I mistaken?

Nah, Zelda isnt in much of a decline.

Wow so many comments so quickly for JP sales
Anyway, Zelda Musou did nicely. Wouldnt say its a huge success but definitely didnt sell poorly, probably one of the best Musou openings on a Nintendo console.
Youkai Watch is just being Youkai Watch, nothing new.
MHFG on Vita well above what I had expected which is good to see, sure digital sales are strong on this one aswell.
Senran Kagura Flop's 2nd week is appualing, it needs to hold that number for a long while now to even think about selling well.

Nintendo consoles don't get mainline Musou games. It didn't completely bomb, but it certainly didn't do well.

That said, a lot of older software got good bumps this week.

I know, thats why I said it =P

Also because I forgot this earlier, FUCK YEAH SAO AND FREEDOM WARS!!!

Well, at least you're being comedic about it.

Monster Hunter Frontier G is doing well on Vita since everybody already play it on pc, xbox, wii and ps3

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m
